P&G Pioneering the ‘Omics’ Revolution to Solve Molecular Puzzles in Beauty & Grooming

Cutting edge Omics Tools Transform Skin And Hair BiologyCutting-edge ‘Omics’ tools transform skin and hair biology to illuminate new pathways to advanced beauty and grooming innovation.

SEOUL, South Korea, May 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ –Procter & Gamble (NYSE: PG) today unveiled its pioneering efforts in the breakthrough field of ‘Omics’ that is set to solve the molecular puzzles of beauty and leapfrog innovations in this space.

Twenty-one years after the start of the Human Genome Project in 1990, the science of genomics has come of age and led to a new era of ‘Omics’-based research. This approach brings together genomics, proteomics and metabolomics to map the entire biological system, illuminating new pathways to better skin and hair science for years to come.

The New Science of ‘Omics’

While genomics has dominated the beauty and grooming discussion in recent years, new advances in genome sequencing and other ‘Omics’ tools are enabling biologists to shift their attention from studying individual parts within a particular biological system to ‘mapping’ the entire system. From the genome to the proteome to the metabolome – together representing the total approach of ‘systems’ biology.

Our complex human biology means there are more than 20,000 genes, as many as a million proteins and thousands of metabolites underlying our fundamental skin and hair processes – now, for the first time, scientists have the ‘Omics’ tools to piece this puzzle together. Procter & Gamble Expands Hair Dye Recall On Mismatched Shades

Clairol Natural Instincts Hair Color Voluntary Recall Procter & Gamble Co. (PG) added another two shades of Clairol Natural Instincts hair color to its voluntary recall, as some include a color booster product that doesn’t match the primary colorant.

The recall now spans 12 shades of the brand of semi-permanent hair dye. While P&G notes the full product remains safe to use and the primary colorant isn’t affected, a sachet of color revitalizer meant to be used two weeks after initial coloring may be mismatched and produce an “unwanted color result.”

Procter & Gamble said it was removing the products from stores and has told regulatory authorities in the affected countries: the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico.

Consumers with an affected shade should discard the “ColorFresh Revitalizer” sachet and can call the company for a replacement coupon or refund at 866-493- 0512.

L’OREAL USA, PROCTER & GAMBLE PARTICIPATE IN NAD FORUM
NAD Find L’Oreal Supported Packaging Claim Related to ‘Superior Gray Coverage’

New York, NY – Dec. 17, 2008 – The National Advertising Division of the Council of Better Business Bureaus has determined that a packaging claim made by L’Oreal USA for its L’Oreal Excellence Crème hair coloring product is a non-comparative claim of general excellence, a message NAD determined was supported by the advertiser’s evidence.

NAD, the advertising industry’s self-regulatory forum, examined the packaging claim following a challenge by Procter & Gamble, the manufacturer of Clairol Nice ‘n Easy Gray Solution, a competing product.

The claim at issue appears in a small red banner on the front left corner of the L’Oreal Excellence Crème package and states in white letters “Superior Gray Coverage.”

The challenger maintained that a reasonable interpretation of the phrase “superior gray coverage” is that Excellence Crème provides better gray coverage than any of its competitors’ products. The advertiser argued that “superior gray coverage” is a non-comparative reference to the product’s high quality and general excellence and appears in a non-comparative context.
