Real Time With Bill Maher Renewed By HBO For 10th Season

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

Real Time With Bill Maher Renewed By HBO For 10th SeasonHBO has just announced a renewal for Real Time with Bill Maher at the TV critics tour. It will be the 10th season for the show.  The comedian hit the stage at the TV critics tour.

He tried to appeal to the crowd by making quasi-flattering partisan “us vs. them” jokes, comparing the media elite to the rest of the country.

The crowd was nearly silent in response to his comments. Maher gave up on his routine saying “This is pointless.”

Maher talked about the HBO renewal.  He said “Some people like having a feud with their network, but I actually like working here. I don’t understand why other networks don’t adopt the HBO formula — hire people you like and trust and let them do their thing.”

High praise for HBO from Bill Maher indeed.

Netflix – No Guts, No Glory Move To Be Even Bigger In The Game

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

Netflix’s Big Gamble With Game-Changing Move! Blurring Boundaries And Pushing HBO and AMC – Moving Into Original Programming With New Kevin Spacey Series

Netflix No Guts, No Glory Move To Be Even Bigger In The GameWhen Netflix arrived on the scene 15 years ago they were the little company with lots of big ideas.  As a result of their push for change, the video-rental industry went under major changes.  Ultimately the small company grew to be a giant and took out the big players who had originally owned video-rental.  The big-box players were knocked out.

Demonstrating a no guts-no glory new move, Netflix has lots of new ideas.  Flexing their muscles and their money, Netflix is taking the next step.  This time they are gunning for HBO and AMC.  According to breaking news by e-pub Deadline.com, Netflix beat out bigs from HBO and AMC to win exclusive airing rights to Kevin Spacey’s new TV series which the title of “House of Cards.”

Could that title be more karmic for Netflix’ latest move for total world domination for the movie-streaming bigwig?  Except that Netflix is taking the plunge with a six-figure investment and a top Hollywood talent series which is expected to be high-profile.

Yes, it’s a bold move and while negotiations are said to still be underway, Netflix supposedly won the deal by promising n unheard of commitment of two seasons for a total of 26 episodes.  The deal is believed to be worth more than $100 million since the high-end drama is estimated to be in the $4 million to $6 million range per episode.  Industry insiders also point out that the launching of a big original series requires tens of millions of dollars for promotion to get viewers to become aware of the offering.

Deadline.com says this new play by the former little guys in video-renting could completely change the way people watch TV shows.

Although Netflix is still dominant in their position as video renting providers, they supposedly are feeling the pressure from Amazon.com’s entry into their market.  Facebook also announced a deal last week with Warner Bros. to experiment with streaming movies through social media.

And the world keeps changing at warp speeds.

Hair Struggles For Big Love’s Ginnifer Goodwin Result In Wig Clause

Saturday, March 5th, 2011

Hair Struggles For Big Loves Ginnifer Goodwin Result In Wig Clause Actress Ginnifer Goodwin (Margene Heffman on HBO’s Big Love) has revealed to the media she requests using wigs rather than grow out her own short and edgy coif when an acting role requires a specific hairstyle.

Speaking recently to InStyle, the newly engaged actress, who recently unveiled a much shorter pixie style haircut with shaved sides, explained she struggles to retain her uniqueness and individuality when she’s forced to wear certain hairdos tied to whatever character she is playing.

Goodwin, who also talked to People.com said that Big Love (currently airing its final season) and HBO “owned every hair on [her] head,” and she was tired of having to consult with the show before making trips to the salon.

“I now have a wig clause written into every one of my contracts,” she said.

Goodwin explained “I find it hard to express myself when I’m growing out a very bad character haircut. As long as I can wear a wig, I can be any character [on the set] and in real life I can be myself.”

Her character, Margene on Big Love, plays the third wife of a Utah family struggling with polygamy.  Her hairstyles have reflected her inner struggles including going platinum blonde in a recent season. Continue reading “Hair Struggles For Big Love’s Ginnifer Goodwin Result In Wig Clause” »

HBO’s Boardwalk Empire Premieres Tomorrow September 19th

Saturday, September 18th, 2010

HBOs Boardwalk Empire Premieres Tomorrow September 19thI’ve been waiting on pins and needles to see the premiere of HBO’s new original series Boardwalk Empire starring Steve Buscemi who plays Enoch (Nucky) Thompson.  I’m a huge fan of Steve’s and think he’s an amazing actor and have witnessed many of his roles over the years.

Boardwalk Empire is the story of Nucky Thompson who is the treasurer of Atlantic City in 1920.  Sort of half gangster and half politician.  He was the guy who ran everything.

(Image of Steve Buscemi as Nucky Thompson – HBO – Boardwalk Empire – All Rights Reserved)

Everyone attached to the series is a superstar in their own right.  Terence Winter is the creator and executive producer,  Martin (Marty to his friends) Scorsese is the Executive Producer and Director, Tim Van Patten is an Executive Producer/Writer/Director.  Nelson Johnson is also involved and he’s the writer of Boardwalk Empire

The show is about outlaws and crimes and based on the concept that there’s always been a love hate relationship with the American Gangster in the American culture.  Boardwalk Empire asks a lot of questions.  When there’s greed and corruption it asks what happens when everything you want is at your feet?  The show is about the dark side of the American Dream.
