Hair accessory guru Henning Deichmann

Saturday, November 7th, 2009

I’ve been passionate about hair accessories from a very young age, assigning great value to my limited collection of headbands and pony clips. When I was honored with an invitation to pledge Alpha Xi Delta sorority at the University of Missouri in St Louis, a whole new appreciation of hair accessories quickly followed.

The official flower of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority was the pink rose, which was often worn in the hair at rush parties, fund raisers and other formal events. My Alpha Xi big sister was a hair accessory fashionista and instantly started plopping an array of jaws, claws, pelicans and pony elastics onto my tresses. She also taught me how to crochet bun warmers, snoods and pony twists.

My interest in hair accessories continued to evolve from that point forward. During a trip to France in the late 80s I was charmed by the gorgeous hand crafted cellulose collections I discovered adorning the tresses of European women. By the time HairBoutique.com was launched I had become acquainted with some of the stunning Evita Peroni collection of accessories which was created by Henning Deichmann. Victoria Beckham’s 150K Birkin Bag

Monday, February 16th, 2009
Victoria Beckhams 150K Birkin BagThe Birkin Bag from Wikipedia – All Rights Reserved.

Victoria Beckham is one of a handful of fashionistas who owns The Diamond Birkin hand bag which starts at $150,000.

Victoria loves these handbags so much she is known to have the largest collection of Birkin handbags in the world.

Besides her Diamond Birkin she also has several others ranging from $1,000 or more.

She was recently photographed carrying a Birkin designed by Jean Paul Gaultier which is a smaller version of her Diamond Birkin.  The Berkin Bag was first introduced in 1984 and has been hugely popular.

Although I have written about Victoria’s hair and her hairstyles, if I ever met the famous Posh I would ask to see her Birkin, not her highlights. Continue reading “Victoria Beckham’s 150K Birkin Bag” »

When Hand Made Products Become Customer Nightmares

Friday, December 12th, 2008

One of the first lessons I learned when opening the HairBoutique.com Marketplace was that what one customer finds charming, quaint and beautiful will cause another customer to scream foul. Why? The retail world is composed of millions of customers with a variety of tastes.

In the early days of HairBoutique.com the word “Internet” when used to describe any type of business was a bad word in many industries.

Since my chosen industries included fashion, accessories, beauty and hair products, I struggled with getting manufacturers, wholesalers, jobbers and third party reps to take HairBoutique.com’s Marketplace seriously. Afterall, were selling on the “Internet”. Continue reading “When Hand Made Products Become Customer Nightmares” »

High Price Of Gold Impacting Gold Jewelry & Fashion Accessories

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

Gold’s per-ounce price could top $1,000 this year, say some gold industry analysts.

Meanwhile, as global demand set records in 2007, the precious metal’s current high-price and volatility poses “challenges” to the jewelry industry generally, and U.S. jewelry retailers specifically, says a new World Gold Council report.

What does that mean for fashionistas?  High prices on high fashion accessories made with gold and of course accelerated pricing on gold wedding and engagement rings.  What to do?  Turn to silver or other precious metals and wait for the gold market to adjust.  After all, like in fashion, what goes up, always goes down.
