Be Careful What You Wish For - Creating Written Operational Procedures

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

It’s 2:00 in the morning and I am still planted firmly in my best Feng Shui direction typing feverishly on my Notebook that has all the keys on the keyboard worn off. Good thing I’m a touch typist or I would be really screwed if I had to hunt and peck. Those typing classes at Bishop Du Bourg High School back in the old St. Louis high school days certainly came in handy. Actually, not to brag, but I came in at the top of my class for the final year type-off. We didn’t call it keyboarding like they do now…but I digress.

Why am I still up working? It seems like the more efficient I become the less efficient I become and the faster I work, the higher the piles get for me to try and conquer.

Celebrity Hairdresser Interview Scoops

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

Besides by being the CEO of HairBoutique.com (and T&S Software - a sister software company), I also wear additional hats as the long time Consumer Hair Editor for MultiMedia, Inc., which produces a large number of consumer hair and beauty focused magazines. Besides having a monthly hair advice column (Ask The Hair Doctor) in two of the magazines - 101 Celebrity Hairstyles as well as Short Cuts Magazine - I often do exclusive interviews with celebrity hairdressers.

It’s Not Personal - It’s Business

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

Yes I agree that to be successful in business you have to make a lot of difficult decisions on a daily, if not, hourly basis.

Those “hard decisions” include terminating the kid you really like who is bright and shows so much promise but can’t seem to ever get to work on time, puts baking cookies with his family at Christmas over coming to work for the Holiday sales crunch and finally pushes you to the brink by forging a doctor’s note so he can call in sick when he’s really not.

Another difficult decision involves trying to be polite to a prospective vendor who is selling the most horrible looking headbands in unbelievably unattractive colors. I never want to be intentionally rude, disrespectful or unkind, so I always decline the opportunity to tie up my limited funds in a probable slow mover by saying I don’t have the budget. Which I don’t - at least not for a guaranteed deadbeat product line.
