Callie Thorne How To Hairstyle

Callie Thorne How To Hairstyle As Dr. Dani SantinoCalliope “Callie” Thorne (born November 20, 1969) is best known for her roles on Homicide: Life on the Street as Detective Laura Ballard, a role she held for 2 seasons and the movie Homicide: The Movie as well as her role as Sheila Keefe on Rescue Me.

Now she’s portraying the strong, sassy and savvy Dr. Dani Santino (Callie Thorne).  Dr. Dani is a Long Island psychotherapist with the entire package of brains, beauty, chutzpah and subtle sexiness.

Necessary Roughness is based upon her comfortable suburban life that has been turned upside down by a messy divorce. Though initially wary about what her future will hold, Dr. Dani finds herself transitioning from devoted wife to in-demand therapist as word gets out about her counseling skills.

High-profile clients are knocking at her door in the hopes that Dr. Dani’s tough-love style and take-no-prisoners counseling approach will help them overcome their crises.

From flailing football players to anxious news anchors to troubled politicians, Dani’s clients constantly keep her on her toes as do her two kids. Luckily, Dani is tough enough to tackle just about any challenge, whether it’s stubborn patients, rebellious teenagers or even the divorce dating scene. (more…)

Unlocking Your Skin’s Moisturization Secrets

Unlocking Your Skins Moisturization SecretsUnlocking Your Skin’s Moisturization Secrets

When you consider the problems related to dryness, including that it makes skin look older, there’s no question of the need for a great moisturizer.

Basis Of Hydration

Still, the basics of hydration, who, when, why, and with what, can be confusing.   In general,  there are three main factors that influence the need for moisturization.

1.  The first is skin type, with drier complexions requiring more hydration than oilier types. Those with oily skin naturally have more sebaceous glands working overtime to pump out sebum, the lubricant produced by the skin.
2.  The second factor is season. Though the duration varies according to geography, during those months that skin is exposed to colder temperatures and lower humidity, aggressive use of moisturizers is often in order.
3.  The third factor is age. As you get “less young” and the output of the sebaceous glands naturally diminishes, skin usually gets drier – though, unfortunately, those with very oily skin often don’t actually notice the oil dip until they reach their fifties.

From here, due in part to the various steps women are taking to have younger, healthier, more radiant-looking skin, the issue of moisturization gets more complicated. (more…)

Hair Jewelry – Would You Wear A Human Hair Necklace?

Hair Jewelry Would You Wear A Human Hair Necklace?Hair Jewelry – Would You Wear A Human Hair Necklace?

Kerry Howell is a 23-year old art and jewelry student of London Middlesex University who wove real human hair into necklaces for her 2011 graduate collection titled Attraction/Aversion.

Kerry was inspired by the yin and yang that is human hair.  Kerry realized that when hair is still flowing from the head it is considered to be a banner of individual pride and beauty.

However, once that same cherished hair is laying on the floor of a hair salon after being shopped off, it is considered distasteful, even repulsive.

Many people find the idea of coming into contact with discarded or stray hair as unthinkable, gross, horrifying.  In fact, there’s nothing worse then finding loose hairs in your food or drink.

Inspired by the opposing emotional responses to hair in both states,  Kerry wanted to see if “discarded hair” could be made “attractive again”, she said.  She hoped to use “discarded hair” to create a “delicate balance between the viewer/wearer’s feelings of aversion and attraction.” (more…)

Feather Hair Extensions From Euthanized Roosters Quickly Losing Popularity

Monday, June 6th, 2011

Feather Hair Extensions From Euthanized Roosters Quickly Losing PopularityHair accessories fads come and they go.  Not that American Idol judge Steven Tyler, credited with starting the hair feather craze, is off the air until next season, many people the feather extension craze will fade.  Of course there are other reasons the feathered hair next trend may be dying off.

Women rushing to their favorite hairstylist and demanding that a few feathers be hot glued into their strands are now discovering that  the hackles – long skinny rooster feathers used by fishermen to make lures, come from live roosters which are genetically bred and raised for their plumage.

In most cases, the birds do not survive the plucking of their feathers and must be euthanized.

Concerns For Inhumane Treatment Of Roosters

Some hair consumers and PETA supporters are worried about animal rights and humane treatments are outraged that birds are not being killed for food and sustenance, but for vanity’s sake.  Of course its important to point out the roosters have always been bred for their feathers and not for food.

At Whiting Farms, Inc., in western Colorado, one of the world’s largest producers of fly tying feathers, the roosters live about a year while their saddle feathers — the ones on the bird’s backside and the most popular for hair extensions — grow as long as possible. Once the feathers are harvested to be sold to nationwide fly fishing shops the roosters are put down.

As a result of the Steven Tyler fueled feather extension craze, fly fishing shops are having a hard time getting the standard feathers to sell to their customers.  The price of the feathers have skyrocketed. (more…)

Hair Memories Of Jessica Simpson

Sunday, June 5th, 2011

Hair Memories Of Jessica SimpsonI first met Jessica Simpson in person in the Summer of 2002, before her marriage to Nick Lachey, the famous reality TV show Newlyweds or the cruel media attacks directed at her for her weight.

Jessica, her sweet mom Tina and charming dad Joe traveled to Dallas to do a Seventeen Magazine shoot and perform at the grand opening of the Seventeen Spa.

A native Texan who went to high school in Dallas, it seemed only fitting to have her back for the kickoff party.

The beauty also brought along her make-up artist, her hairstylist, her friend CaCee Cobb and her grandparents who were all wonderful and interesting people.

Meeting Jessica was such a treat because she was so warm, sweet and welcoming.  She is also breathtakingly beautiful in person and her hair was so shiny and silky it literally shimmered in the light.

There were several points during her three day visit where I was impressed with her kindness, generosity, sense of humor and beauty.  During that period of time in her life she was preparing for her upcoming wedding and was working out and watching her diet to be at her best for her stunning gown.  (more…)
