‘CELEBRITY’ Is Broadcast Television’s #1 Program In Primetime Monday Night Among Adults 18-34

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - June 2, 2009 - Last night’s premiere of NBC’s “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!” has led the network to a tie for the nightlong win in adults 18-49 and an outright victory for the night among adults 18-34, according to official national “live plus same day” viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research. It’s the third consecutive night NBC has finished #1 or tied for #1 in adults 18-49.

From 8-10 p.m. ET, “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!” debuted with a 2.6 rating, 8 share in adults 18-49 and 6.4 million viewers overall.

“I’m a Celebrity” jumped 44 percent above NBC’s 18-49 average in this time period during the May sweep (2.6 vs. 1.8) and was up 18 percent versus the network’s total-viewer average in the slot during May (6.4 million vs. 5.5 million). (more…)

Don’t get me wrong, I have always been a Trista and Ryan Sutter fan.

When Trista and Ryan were falling in love on their Bachelorette gig, Ryan even answered an email to me about his hair.

I was psyched and forever a fan.  I also like Chris Harrison even though I think at times he is put in a difficult position, but that’s another story for another blogging day.

The proof is always in the pudding and with all the various Bachelor Finale Theories including the now famous Reality Steve Conspiracy Theory, The Bachelor’s two-hour finale was seen by 15.5 million people and received a 5.4 preliminary adults 18-49 rating and a 13 share.  It’s The Bachelor’s biggest total viewer tally since 2005 and its highest adult demo rating since 2003.

Even more viewers tuned into the “After the Final Rose” special at 10 p.m. A whooping 17.5 million, 6.7/16 actually watched the show where Jason dumps Melissa for Molly drawing a rating that very few series this year can match. “Rose” had the best numbers ever for the special.

Milking The Bachelor for all it’s worth, ABC aired a second After The Final Rose special the night after the first After The Final Rose aired.

The Bachelor After The Final Rose Part 2

ABC announced in a press release for the media that “The Bachelor: After the Final Rose, Part 2″ drew ABC’s best numbers for a 10:00 p.m. Tuesday telecast in viewers and young adults in 15 months - since 11/20/07.

It was ABC’s highest Tuesday 10:00 p.m. telecast in its core Women 18-34 demo in nearly 8 years - since 5/22/01.

Similar to Part 1 that aired the previous night, “The Bachelor: After the Final Rose, Part 2″ won the 10 o’clock hour in Total Viewers (10.9 million) and across all key Adults demographics: Adults 18-34 (3.5/10), Adults 18-49 (4.0/11) and Adults 25-54 (4.5/11).

“Part 2″ posted the Net’s best numbers in the hour in over 3 months - since 11/25/08. In addition, “The Bachelor: After the Final Rose, Part 2″ stood as the No. 2 program of the night across the Adults demo, behind only Fox’s “American Idol.”

From The Bottom In The Rankings To The Top

The Bachelor was at the height of viewership in 2002 drawing 17 million viewers.   In 2005 the viewership dipped to its lowest level of 7 million viewers.  The average viewership during the Jason Mesnick Bachelor season has been 11 million plus and climbing steadily, especially after the buzz about The Bachelor Conspiracy was leaked by Steve Carbone of RealitySteve.com.

At one point The Bachelor which had been in the Top Five of all TV shows fell into the bottom 50.  There was even talk the show would be cancelled.

Obviously ABC is thrilled with the results.  And Jason Mesnick who dumped Melissa Rycroft for Molly Malaney?  He told US Magazine in the March 9th issue back in February “I feel really good” he gushed.  “I’m just so happy about how everything turned out.”

Topping The Ratings

Although ABC announced the next Bachelorette is Jason reject, Jillian, they definitely will have their work cut out for them in terms of generating as much buzz or an equally shocking ending for Jillian.

Personally, I think ABC should do what The Donald did and go with a Celebrity Bachelor or a Celebrity Bachelorette.  Even it if’s a C celebrity, it will definitely attract more viewers.  Just look at Dancing With The Stars.

As prevously revealed by Reality Steve, Melissa Rycroft is NOT the next bachelorette.  Jillian is.  Why?  According to reliable inside sources, Melissa, who is so lovely and from Dallas, Texas, is fed up with the experience on The Bachelor and wants nothing more to do with it.

According to Reality Steve, in the ATFR2 ceremony tonight, Jason and Molly will reunite and discuss their journey towards love and marriage.  It is also likely that Jason may propose to Molly although that is still an unknown.

Keep in mind that the Final Rose Ceremony was filmed at the end of 2008 before the various Christmas and related Holidays.  Also keep in mind that After The Final Rose Ceremony was filmed a few weeks ago and After The Final Rose2 (ATFR2) was filmed last week.   ATFR2 air tonight on national television on ABC and Melissa chose not to be present.  A “letter from Melissa” is supposedly read on air wishing Jason and Molly well.

Is the letter really Melissa?  It is unclear.

However, the sources who have been right to this point told RealitySteve that Jillian is definitely the next Bachelorette and it will be announced tonight during ATFR2.

After Jason told Molly during After The Final Rose that in essence he was dumping her because he still had feelings for Molly she called him a “Bastard”.  It was not cut by The Bachelor producers.

She also told Jason never to contact her again, not to call or to text.  She made it clear she was completely finished with him and very angry.  Jason walked Melissa to the end of the stage but not out to her waiting limo.  According to Jason on Twitter, the producers would not let him walk her out to the limo.

Melissa, who looked absolutely gorgeous was interviewed in the limo after it pulled away from the studios.  She was crying and seemed shellshocked.  It was no surprise she called Jason a “bastard”.  Its surprising she didn’t call him other names but she is very polite and sweet and it would have been a shock.

Melissa said “it’s just an awful feeling to give your heart to someone you trust and they just throw it away.”  Fighting through tears the lovely Bachelorette from Texas said “he didn’t want to fight for our relationship, he didn’t want to try.”  She said he said instead he wanted to go and explore his feelings with Molly.  Sniffling she said “what girls wants to hear that?”   She pointed out “nobody wants to hear I’m not going to try.”

Explaining herself further she said “I’m not angry, I’m hurt”.  She said “I put up that wall of pretending how angry I am so he can’t see how much he really hurt me.”  Melissa said “short term I gave him everything” and “I was dropped on my butt.”

Pointing out “it’s hard to see the silver lining when you are in this situation” she explained that she hopes to learn and grow from this experience and not to play the “pity card”.

The lovely lady from Dallas, Texas said when asked what she was going to do next “I’m going to go home and live my life.”
