Can stress cause gray hair?

This is a hotly debated topic that I have heard about for the entire 10+ years I have been writing and researching about hair related topics for men and women.

In case you haven’t been reading my Men’s Hair, Grooming & Fashion blog entries, I am on a men’s hat kick. Why? I recently spent time at a menswear show and was amazed by all the different men’s hats. I also was unsure how men buy hats online and make sure they fit properly. No, I’m still not sure if I know the answer but I have figured out how to measure the head for a hat and that there are basically three types of heads.

I promised I’d try and figure out the whole men’s hat sizing question and I have found some sites with sizing information.

MensHats.com have just about every type a hat a man (or woman for that matter) could want. They also have a great sizing chart. According to MensHats.com before buying a hat, take a soft tape measure and measure around the widest part of your head where you want the head to rest. Take those measures and match to the Hat Size Chart which they provide.

In a recent blog entry for men’s fashions I referenced a Men’s Health Magazine article I found from 2001. The article gave statistics about how men viewed themselves from a fashion perspective and what fashion items they hoped to see in the future. One item men agreed would be a great fashion addition was caps, hats and headwear.

Some men love to wear hats to be fashionable - Ashton Kutcher comes to mind - while others wear it to be practical - block out sun, wind and cold - or to hide thinning scalps.

One of the HairBoutique.com male reps recently stopped by with some new line sheets and asked if I could help him out with some advice about his hair.

Of course I was willing to try and was curious what his challenge involved It turned out he was dealing with fine, thin hair that was getting thinner by the year. He wanted, in his own words, “to pump it up as much as possible” and wanted to know “all” with stress applied to all, my tricks to adding lots of volume. Luckily he did not have a combover but his hair did have a lot of gel which made it look stiff.

First of all, I confess that I hoard magazines. In fact, I hoard more magazines than all my hair care, beauty, nail, skin and beauty products combined. Throw my shoes and two prized Coach handbags on the pile and the magazines win hands down. I have mountains of boxes full of hair, beauty, fashion, nail, skin, spa…etc etc…mags stacked floor to ceiling in my office, in my library at work and at home. I used to have a storage until filled with over 100 paper boxes of well…magazines and papers…until I decided that it was beyond crazy to rent space for my addiction.

When my friends and family give me a hard time about my magazines I always tell them I have to save them in case I find something I need. Well today my magazines came through in flying colors when I unearthed a Men’s Health (MHM) Magazine from back in 2001. There it was wedged between a Cosmo and Allure.
