#FollowFriday On Twitter - 60 Hair, Beauty & Fashion Tweeple To Follow & Why

Friday, May 15th, 2009

I’m a huge Twitterholic.  Even though in a way you could call me one of the old ladies of the Web since I’ve been around since the mid 1990s, I really never got fired up about Web2.0.  I tried but it just didn’t catch my initial interest.

(Image from Airs and Graces Collection - #3 Grace and air - Photography By Jill Wachter, Hair by Vivienne Mackinder, Make up by Mary Schook, Fashion Styling by Sharon Maloney at the Metropolitan Building in NY.  Hair extensions from Hair U Wear - www.hairdesignertv.com - All Rights Reserved - Printed Silk Charmouse Dress - $7,500 Carlos Miele).

Yes, I have a Linkedin Account, a Facebook account and have proudly had some of my articles reprinted on MySpace because HairBoutique has had a MySpace account as soon as it was permitted.  I also had an account on SecondLife right after the site was opened and HairBoutique had an initial storefront we took down before anyone else in the hair industry even knew about SecondLife.

Although I love the Web and am in some circles considered an early adopter with HairBoutique.com and HairTalk, I never got the Social Netorking bug until Twitter. (more…)

The Girl With No Name Whose Tweets On Twitter Helped Me Change My Life For The Better

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

As I reported in a recent blog, I am a full-blown workaholic.  Considering my prior addictions which, through the grace of God, Twelve Step Programs and a fabulous sponsor,  I have managed to abstain from for over 20 years, work is the lesser of all my evils.

(Image of GirlWithNoName from www.girlwithnoname.com - All rights Reserved).

I do need to mention the fact that I love my work which consists of writing and running HairBoutique.  Both of these tasks are pure fun and I feel blessed to have these opportunities in my life.

I Am Committed To Getting Enough Restful Sleep

When I’m in my work mania mode, I am having so much fun writing or tweeting or doing whatever, I don’t want to take the time to eat healthy, exercise or take time for me.  I have learned over the years I must get enough sleep because if I don’t my skin, hair and nails start to rebel.  I also find I am better able to write and think when I have had a good 7-8 hours of restful sleep.  As a result, I religiously honor a set bedtime and have learned what things to do to fall asleep quickly and get productive sleep. 2009 Spring Beauty Blog Carnival Hosted By HairBoutique.com

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 2009 Spring Beauty Blog Carnival hosted for the first time by HairBoutique.com.

We’ve compiled some of the very best blog submissions out there about all kinds of Spring Beauty Topics - from herbal skin care and bird dropping facials (yes, bird poo!) to great information on organic lipstick and 2009 beauty and hair trends (who doesn’t love a good trend forecast)?

All of the blogs included in this Carnival are focused on Spring Beauty Topics.  Since the industry is buzzing about Spring Trends, we’ll be covering everything related to body, face and hair and overall trends for 2009 Spring.

Springing Into Beauty Trends by Amanda Fornecker from A Minute With SpaBeautySchools highlights the fact Spring is a time of rebirth and renewal.  Amanda blogs about how to learn the latest Spring beauty trends or even start a beauty career knowing the latest info!

Celebrate Spring With A Party

Dawn Bertuca at Girlfriend Celebrations is an expert at celebrating life’s events and provides great inspiration in Aaaah, The Simple Spa Party by Girlfriend Celebrations.

BODY

The human body is much like a ship, a robust vessel in which all humans sail through the high and low tides that life brings us.  In order to attain true beauty we must cultivate vibrantly healthy bodies which in turn supports thick, luscious and shiny tresses, sparkling eyes and glowing complexions.

Herbal Skin Care

Herbal skin care is often pooh-pooled by most people, but the truth is, herbal skin care has been used since ancient times.

The human body is covered by skin and thus it’s important to address this area of the body in order to achieve ultimate beauty.  Sigrid Landau from A1HowTo offers great insights into herbal skin care which has been utilized since ancient times.   Sigrid blogs about Helpful Information About Skin Care.

Anti-Aging Skin Care

Farid Mostamand from the Skin Beauty Blog explains in Anti-Aging Skincare for Your Body how many people think of skincare, they only think of products on their face and don’t worry about the skin on the rest of their body.

As the skin ages, it loses elasticity and can become wrinkled, show cellulite more visibly and begin to sag with old age.

Most of these conditions can be slowed or prevented through the implementation of a thorough skin regimen that includes the body. Anti-aging skincare for your body is detailed in the Skin Beauty Blog.

12 Uses Of Baking Soda

Though it’s a known fact that baking soda is widely used in baking, deodorizing refrigerators, microwaves and in household cleaning, let’s look into some common as well as uncommon health and beauty uses of this household ingredient. Aprana explains in the Beauty and Personality Grooming Blog you can concoct your own beauty products in the convenience of your home by mixing a few ingredients from your kitchen shelves.

For additional uses of Baking Soda as a great beauty aide read 12 Beauty Uses of Baking Soda.

How To Pop A Pimple

Sheena from Spa Boutique provides excellent tips in her Spa Girl Beauty Tips Blog.  One of Sheen’s blogs provides helpful tips on Extractions or How To Pop a Pimple.

Top Tools For Your Makeup Bag

There are just some supplemental tools that every girl needs in her makeup bag.  The Makeup Lovers Anonymous Blogspot provides The Top 5 Tools For Your Makeup Bag a fabulous entry provided by Amanda Fornecker.

Learn more about the top five products that you should always consider having on hand when doing your makeup. Every makeup professional is bound to have these tools in her makeup bag as well.

Preventing Stretch Marks During Pregnancy

According to an unofficial report, stretch marks is one of the most prevalent issues for pregnant ladies.  Most of pregnant women have resorted to creams, lotions, rubs and even lasers to lighten or even remove them. But what exactly causes these unsightly lines and how to get rid of stretch marks effectively?

Alice at The How To Get Rid Of Stretch Marks Blog provides helpful hints in How To Prevent Stretch Marks During Pregnancy.

Acai Berry Capsules For Your Body’s Ultimate Health

John Duke at the Pure Acai - Acai Berry Info Blog believes strongly in the importance of the Acai Berry and provides details in his blog titled Acai Berry Capsules The Power-packed Health Supplement for Your Body.

FACE

Mahatma Gandhi was quoted as saying “To a true artist only that face is beautiful which, quite apart from its exterior, shines with the truth within the soul”  Mahatma Gandi - Indian Philosopher.

The latest beauty craze sparked by former Posh Spice Victoria Beckham is nightingale droppings from Japan.  Confessions of a Soapaholic provides details on this new facial in the blog Poop on Your Face?

Organic Lipstick

Many experts and watchdog groups, including the Canadian government, is taking dangerous chemicals more seriously.  Lipstick is one cosmetic which has been hotly debated regarding the chemicals they contain.

Julie at the Organic Lipstick Blog is very passionate about the organic movement. Supporting organic farmers and manufacturers is a win win for everyone. It’s the way to save both ourselves and our planet.  She provides an excellent and detailed blog about If Organic Lipstick is Not Your Thing, at Least Move to Canada. Ultimately Julie wants you to weight all the advantages of Organic Lipstick.

Whiten Teeth And Apply Lipstick With One Tube

Just when Edan Kencayd thought the only thing cool coming out of Australia was Nicole Kidman, she was dumbfounded - pleasantly so - by Model Co’s newest beauty invention: StarSmile - Lipstick and Teeth Whitener.  Read Edan’s blog about this new multi-tasking beauty find.

Growing Eyelashes

If you’re on the lookout for good ways to improve the way you look eyelash products may just be what you are searching for.  Over the past few years, products for growing eyelashes have quickly become one of the most popular beauty products in the area of cosmetics.

Sigrid Landau explores eyelash growth products in her A1 How To Blog titled Eye Lash Growth Products:  Do They Work As Promised?

Make Up Infatuation

Rebecca Khan confesses that make-up is something of a not-so secret hobby of hers which has started to evolve into a real passion which she shares in her blog The Makeup Infatuation Blogspot. Check out her 2009 Spring Beauty Blog on Real Solutions has a Real Solution. Really.

Home Facial Peel

Linda Florentine at Skin Culture Peel Reviews appreciates the option to peel at home.  Linda offers Top 4 Reasons to Choose a Home Facial Peel.

HAIR

The history of hair care is as old as the history of humankind.  Archaeologists have found evidence of combs and other hair styling and grooming tools that Cro-Magnon people used to dress their stresses.  In that regard today’s people are the same and still use products and tools to groom and style their strands.

Spring hairstyles follow the tresses of the models on the major runways.  The indication for 2009 is that the Updo is the hairstyle to wear.  While the thought of an updo may be scary, famed runway celeb hairdresser Guido in co-operation with Redken provides great tips in 2009 Easy Updos That Keep Hair Off Your Face. Guido and Redken also showcase Spring Summer Hair Trends Which Go Perfectly Undone.

For additional 2009 Spring Hair Inspiration check out the Stunning New HairStyles from Schwarzkopf.  Other helpful 2009 Spring Hair Tips include 2009 Glam Hair Accessories and Rescue Dry And Damaged Hair - No Lifeguard Required.

Nibipedia Fun For Your Brain Warning

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

I’ll admit it.  I’m jaded by the Web.  What do you expect?  I’ve been surfing nonstop since almost the beginning back in the mid-1990s.  Yes I know I’m aging myself but with age comes wisdom.  Right?  And I have tons of wisdom when it comes to surfing the Web.  Afterall, I was included in some of the early nods toward Cybergurrls back in the day when the Web was just heating up.

UTube, Wikipedia, Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace, Twitter.  Been there and done all of that.  I will confess my addiction to all things Wikipedia and Twitter continue to grow and thrive.  When I’m writing any hair, beauty of celebrity blog I always check with Wiki first.  They usually have the goods I need or at least get me pointed in the right directions.  I also browse UTube to see if there are related videos to consider.

Same is true with Twitter.  I search for related hair tweets. The only problems with Wikipedia, UTube and Twitter is that I tend to get sucked into the fun vortex and lose my other addictions to working and writing.  Ahhh, what a challenge to decide whether to surf in or try to avoid the temptations.

Just when I thought I had my goofing off contained to a few fun Web portals, I discovered Nibipedia via Twitter.  Of course it would be Twitter where I would find the fabulous fun portal called Nibipedia.  Have you been there?  If not, be prepared for a great experience and the possibility you may never want to leave.  Ever. PR Industry Crisis In Hair & Beauty Worlds

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

Of course I can’t speak for all Public Relastions folks (PR) in the Hair and Beauty World.  I can only speak about my own experiences over the past 12 years as CEO/Founder of HairBoutique.com.  Since the very beginning of HB I have received press releases from a wide range of PR sources regarding the latest, greatest products.

To be fair, some of the press releases, especially in the old days, were brilliantly written and offered compelling information.  Many years ago there were PR agencies representing companies who also offered gorgeous images of the hair and beauty related products (Goldwell, Redken, Aveda) or services being offered.  Many even provided samples for review, although it seems like decades ago now.
