Comedian Chris Rock has encountered both rave reviews as well as snickers and boos in response to his new documentary, Good Hair.  While some people have enjoyed the film, others are not as happy with Rock’s viewpoints.

Chris Rock on the other hand is gleeful about shining the light on secrets, which he says are “bad for the human spirit.”

As a result of his own daughter’s angst about not having “good hair” he set out to examine the African American history around having good or bad hair.  As Chris as explained in interviews with the media African American hair has been burdened by the twin legacies of slavery and racism with strong pressure to compare their hair to Caucasian hair.

Historically in the African American community, “good hair” is categorized as soft, smooth and manageable. “Bad hair” is typically called short and “nappy.”   Traditionally when trying to alter bad hair and transition it to good there has been the adoption of chemicals and hair weaves. (more…)

It was reported by Joe Ryan on Wednesday of this week (August 26, 2009) by the Star-Ledger newspaper that a West African immigrant pleaded guilty to helping run a secret human trafficking operation that reportedly forced women to work in Newark and East Orange, New Jersey salons braiding hair for 14 hours a day.

The ring lead by a man and his ex-wife appeared to have smuggled victims in to New Jersey from Ghana and Togo were forced to work braiding hair against their wills.  The case was recently heard before a Federal Judge.

Most people do not realize that human trafficking occurs even in the United States where people from other countries are lured away from impoverished countries with promises of lucrative employment opportunities. (more…)

While it used to be true hats were most often worn to protect the head and hair from extreme temperatures (hot and cold) as well as Summer sun and wind exposure, hats are now worn all the time, as much for fashion, as for protection.

The right hat can be a fabulous accessory for a sizzling bikini or paired with a fabulous dress.  The wrong hat, like any other fashion item, can wreck a great outfit.  Even more concerning, many hats, although not all, can cause a bad case of hat head when removed.

Are there proven ways to prevent hat head?  Yes.  Consider the follow options to eliminating or minimizing a critical case of hat head from your favorite beach straw hat or any of your other hats.

Minimize Hat Head With Any Type Of Hat

1.  If you plan to wear a hat as either a fashion accessory or a functional cover-up at the beach, consider selecting a hairstyle that is most compatible with the hat you are planning to wear.  Match your hair type, texture, length, color and overall hair condition with the hat.  Decide whether your hair will look best flowing out from underneath the bottom of the hat, twisted into braids or a pony or whether you prefer to wear your hair pinned up underneath. What you may not know about Rachel Anne McAdams is that she is sometimes compared to Pretty Woman Julia Roberts.

Her biggest inspiration in terms of an actress she would like to follow to fame?  Elizabeth Taylor.  The 5′5″ Rachel has said “I lovvve Elizabeth Taylor.”  she also quotes Audrey Hepburn to be her role model.

One of the biggest “secrets” of the 2009 Academy Awards was that Jennifer Aniston would be a presenter.  The buzz that Jen would actually be in the same location with her ex-Brad Pitt and if the media is to believed, her arch enemy Angelina.

It was unclear what category Jennifer would presenting and whether or not she would walk the Red Carpet and thus risk running into Brangelina, as the media refers to them.

One thing was a given, if Jen attended the Oscars, she would be bringing on again-off again love John Mayer.

And the award winning singer would not be wearing the lime green thong Ellen Degeneres showcased John wearing when Jen recently appeared on her show to celebrate her 40th birthday.
