Hairstyles That Draw Attention To Eyes

Sunday, January 4th, 2009

Do you have gorgeous eyes and want them to pop?

Why not work with your favorite hairdresser to create a haircut or hairstyle designed specifically to amp up your gorgeous peepers?

Listed below are some haircuts and hairstyles which will draw attention to your eyes:

1.  Short pixie, cap or crop like those worn by Victoria “Posh Spice” with strategic layers and short or super “baby” bangs. With a short cut like this your eyes will be the center of attention.

2.  A medium length bob like the one worn by Jenny McCarthy with hair side-swept and worn sleekly to one side with a panel of hair appearing to create an “arrow” along the temple directly other eyes down right towards the eyes.  Jenny also wears this hairstyle with brow-skimming heavy bangs.

Either type of Jenny McCarthy style “frames” the face and draws instant attention to the eyes and brows.

3.  Below the chin layered shag with layers cut strategically to draw attention up from the chin towards the eyes and sleek side-swept bangs.

4. Medium or shoulder length hairstyles with texturized and layered bangs and lots of fullness along the crown.  When the hairstyle has volume right behind the hairline it will draw attention “up” the face and towards the eyes. (more…)

Audrey Hepburn Hair

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

Actress Audrey Hepburn was a hair, beauty and fashion icon.  Although she wasn’t the first celebrity to wear a French Twist hairstyle, superstar Audrey put her own personal touch on the French Twist hairstyle when she wore it in the hit movie Breakfast At Tiffany’s.

After Audrey showcased her hair twist it became and instant classic which has become a favorite of multiple generations of actresses who have followed her to the screen.

Besides a traditional Hollywood Glam hairstyle, I think it’s fair to say that a Audrey Hepburn French Twist hairstyle is one of the most classic updos that anyone can wear for any type of hairstyle event from a very formal wedding to a deconstructed French Twist worn to a more casual party or event.

When I was in cosmo school we had a series of updo contests.  I am proud to report that I won a contest combining the base of a traditional French Twist with a few curls gently pulled out from the sides and pinned around the outside.

Needless to say, I am a huge fan of this gorgeous hairstyle which can be modified appropriately to be worn by any type of face shape or hair length.  Clip in temporary extensions can be utilized for short or medium length hair in order to coif a twist.

Eva Mendes Channels Audrey Hepburn

Actress Eva Mendes recently rocked a series of Audrey Hepburnese Twists on Hollywood Red Carpets.

Like Audrey, Eva has beautiful soft chocolate brown tresses with a slight hint of caramel highlights carefully interwoven throughout her crown and around her hairline to add shimmer and softness to her gorgeous face.

Eva channelled Audrey Hepburn’s Breakfast At Tiffany’s French Twist at the Los Angeles Premiere of ‘The Spirit’ - on December 17, 2008 in an eye popping splashy canary yellow Bill Blass gown.

Eva’s hair twist billowed up from the back of her heavily backcombed crown and was tucked sleekly into the back her head on either side of her ears.  A few strands along the top were lightly finger picked to create a slightly messy look.

The Latin lovely’s hair was parted down the front with matching curtains of slightly tousled hair floating softly on either side of her gorgeous face.

Eva’s recent Audrey Hepburn hair turn worked spectacularly with her stunning strapless gown.  By wearing her below-the-shoulder length hair swept up off her shoulders, the gorgeous jeweled encrusted top of her Bill Blass gown was highlighted.

Monistat & Miconazole Nitrate For Hair Growth

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

Over the years I have been constantly asked about the underground long hair world belief that Monistat cream (also known as monistat/miconazole nitrate), yes the kind women use for vaginal infections, can grow hair when applied to the scalp. There is no scientific proof or published evidence that using this treatment method will actually work.

Miconazole Nitrate (MN) pronounced as (mye-KON-a-zole) is the key ingredient in any topical formulations generally available for treating other kinds of suspected external yeast overgrowth problems such as jock itch, ringworn and athlete’s foot/itch (tinea pedis). Some of these creams have been tested as other optional hair growth creams.

The most common brand names for MN include Lotrimin AF, Micatin and Monistat Derm. Generic brands are also available with different names. When in doubt talk with your pharma expert.

Medical doctors may also prescribe Clotimazole (1% or more) Econzaolve, Ketoconazole and Betamethasone Dipropionate Cream for related yeast problems and/or chronic psoriasis of the scalp.

If you wish to pursue an off-brand name of Monistat, Monistat Derm or a NM formulation look for miconazex vaginal cream (available at some WalMarts or Dollar General or Family Dollar stores). The off-brand may not work as well as the hard core Monistat but it is much less expensive as well.

Neosporin AF

Some hair growers have also experimented with Neosporin AF since it also has miconazole nitrate. It is important to purchase the Neosporin AF or some other anti-fungal cream that specifies miconzaole nitrate as a key ingredient. The idea behind this treatment is that the anti-fungal works on the scalp to increase hair growth by killing fungas living on the scalp and potentially slowing hair growth or blocking the follicles.

Nirzoral

Nizoral which is a common anti-yeast medication contains ketoconazole which is similar to miconazole but not exactly the same.

2% Verus 4% Formulations

The amount of miconazole nitrate contained in Monistat versus other anti-itch products may vary from 2-4% in content. Some people believe the 4% rocks because it appears to work faster. However, it also tends to have the highest risk of side effects.

Personal Testing Of Monistat For Hair Growth

Have I personally tried it? Yes. I always try just about everything related to hair (products, techniques, underground long hair tips). Did it work for me? Honestly I didn’t see any major difference. In all fairness, I do so many things to keep my hair long and healthy that it’s possible if tried alone the Monistat would’ve made a difference.

I do need to point out that I do not even use Monistat for its intended purpose - yeast infections. Nope, over the past 25+ years I have found much more natural treatment methods that have less potential side effects. I also avoid using anything with miconazole nitrate because it tends to aggravate my chronic yeast.

Did I use the Monistat cream religiously? Yes, for 30 days. Was that a fair test run? Maybe not but I experienced side effects that concerned me to the point that I was unwilling to continue the test.

Shimmery Hair

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

In case you’re wondering what Shimmery Hair is, it’s means hair that shimmers, shines and generally has a high gloss content.

While it’s definitely true that some types of hair will have a much easier time of achieving Super Shimmer, the reality is that even damaged hair can achieve a high shine.

Types of Hair With Natural Shimmer

The general rule of thumb for hair that has a natural shimmer potential includes hair with the following characteristics:

1.  Is brunette or raven black.  The darker the hair color, the more shimmer potential.  Light reflects best off dark colors and less effectively off the lighter hues.
2.  Is stick straight since textured hair does not reflect shine as easily.
3.  Is shoulder length or longer since there is more hair surface for maximum shimmer.
4.  Is worn down rather than up. (more…)

Zooey Deschanel Hairstyle - Yes Man

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

Actress Zooey Deschanel tries to be “unbearably clever” at least that’s what she told Jane Magazine in a September 2006 interview about her role in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.

The witty younger sister of Emily Deschanel of TV’s Bones told Jane that her fave snack foods were “carob chips, apples, pudding”.

As far as her fashion Zooey told Jane she is perpetually shopping for “the perfect pair of overall shorts” which have “eluded me since the fifth grade”.

Gosh, I just love Zooey in ‘Failure To Launch’ when she is driven to distraction by the mockingbird outside her window.  She is beyond hilarious.

I also loved her as the deadpan smartass in Elf where she played a blonde as well as demonstrating her singing talents during the course of the movie.

Zooey’s career is skyrocketing and she recently walked the Red Carpet with Jim Carrey in honor of her significant role in Yes Man.

Not only is the funny girl’s career rocking, her sense of style and beauty have continued to evolve since her Elf days when her medium length bobbed hair was a shade of over processed blonde.
