Detangling Curly Hair

Beyonce Long Naturally Curly Hair

Detangling Curly Hair

Many people would be surprised to discover that detangling curly hair is one of the most important steps to creating perfect curl clumps.

Listed below are some tips to consider when detangling curly hair:

1.  Every head of curly or naturally textured hair is different from every other type of hair. What works for one person may not work for others.  Find the detangling system which works best for you, your hair and your lifestyle.
2.  Never detangle wet or dry curly hair with a brush.  When brushing dry hair frizz may occur.  When brushing wet hair there is a risk of ripping, tearing and breakage.  All hair is most delicate when wet.
3.  It’s always best to detangle curly hair before cleansing it.  If tangled hair is immersed into water full of pre-existing knots the water may only make the tangling worse.
4.  While some people with curly hair do best to detangle after first applying a rinse-out conditioner, others report that detangling works best with no conditioner of any type.
5.  Rinse-out conditioners may work best in the shower,  but may not be as effective as detanglers out of the shower.  Not all detangling products are created equal.  Find the products which work best for you and your hair type, texture and condition. Continue reading “Detangling Curly Hair” »

Valerie Cruz Curly Hair How To

Valerie Cruz Curly Hair How To

Valerie Cruz Curly Hair How ToValerie Cruz (born July 18, 1976) was part of the cast of the ABC drama Off the Map, which was sadly canceled by ABC On May 13, 2011.

Valerie has beautiful naturally curly hair which she alternates wearing down in loose curls or up in an array of soft twists.  Her natural base color is a rich chocolate brown with an array of caramel highlights and darker chocolate low lights.

To recreate Valerie’s gorgeous natural curls follow the steps below:

Step By Step Hair How To

1.  Cleanse hair in lukewarm water with products designed for your hair length, type, texture and current condition.  Use your favorite cleansing procedure ranging from full strength shampoo to low poo, diluted shampoo, conditioner only, no poo or water only or a combination.
2.  Rinse well and gently squeeze excess water from hair with fingers.
3.  Apply rinse-out conditioner of your choice from the top of the earlobes down to the ends.
4.  Use fingers or a wide tooth comb to detangle hair in the shower from the ends up to the roots.
5.  Finish with a cool or cold water rinse.
6.  Blot just cleansed hair with a towel.  Do not rub since this will cause frizz to form.
7.  Apply leave-in styling cocktail including, but not limited to, a leave-in conditioner, defrisant and/or mousse or styling cream.  For added volume through the roots spray volumizer on the roots.   Rake the styling cocktail through the strands to distribute well.
8.  Separate hair into 8 horizontal sections.  Work on one section at a time by drying with a long finger diffuser attached to a blow dryer.  Allow strand to nestle into the base of the diffuser.
Valerie Cruz Curly Hair How To9.  After each section is 100% dry, roll around finger into a ringlet and pin against the scalp to cool and set.
10.  Unpin all of the individual ringlet sections of hair, but do not comb or brush.  Tousle lightly.
11.  Mix a dime size amount of 3 parts styling cream with 1 part gel into the palms of your hands.  Rake product coated fingers through the ends of the hair.  Avoid over applying product to the hair.
12.  For additional texture throughout the ends, use a curling iron to enhance ringlets.
13.  Apply 1-2 drops of shine serum to the palms of your hands and massage well.  Lightly brush the serum coated palms of your hands over the top of your strands.
13.  Optionally you can apply a shine spray or shine enhancing hairspray instead.

American Idol Sends Naima Adedapo And Thia Megia Packing

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

American Idol Sends Naima Adedapo And Thia Megia PackingIn a dramatic gesture last week by the American Idol (AI) judges Casey Abrams was sparred final elimination.  Abrams was as shocked as everyone else that Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler used their one save of the season to keep Abrams.  Ironically their save was relatively early in the AI season.

On Wednesday’s show a sober Casey Abrams who has had a haircut and a shave was told by Jennifer that she didn’t regret saving Abrams and was happy she did so.  The audience seems to love Abrams but it was the audience votes that put him at the very bottom last week.

As a result of Abrams save last week, two AI contestants had to go home this week.  The women continued to fall on the sword with a dreadlocked Naima Adedapo and a long haired Thia Megia being sent home.

Although I was sad to see two more women go, I wasn’t surprised at all after watching the March 30th performances.  Adedapo applied a reggae twist to an Elton John classic song which the judges didn’t go wild over.  Megia also left a lot to be desired with her rendition of a John son.  America made the correct choices.  I actually was surprised Adedapo lasted as long as she did.
