Birkenstock Sandals Offer Cool Foot Fashions

With the hot sizzling summer temperatures sweeping the nation flip flops and sandals are the coolest foot fashions.  Hot sweaty feet and toes welcome the open shoe fashions.

One sandal which is continuing to gain in popularity is the Birkenstock which has a long and interesting history.  The Birkenstock brand traces its roots to a German by the name of Johann Adam Birkenstock.  Birkenstock was registered in 1774 as a shoemaker in local church archives.

In 1897  Johann’s grandson, Konrad Birkenstock developed the first contoured insole to be used by shoemakers in the production of custom footwear. 1902 saw another first in shoe making by Konrad when he developed the first flexible arch support to be inserted in factory-made shoes.

In 1964, these inserts were developed further into a shoe by Karl Birkenstock, and what would become the current Birkenstock sandal was created. American Margo Fraser discovered Birkenstock sandals while on a holiday in Germany.  The famous footwear helped her with a foot condition.

Fraser founded a trading company called Birkenstock Footprint Sandals, Inc., in California.  The company was renamed Birkenstock Distribution USA, Inc., in 2005.   Birkenstocks are thought by many to help improve foot health and skeletal alignment.

The Hollywood Reporter recently published an amazing piece about how celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe became the most powerful stylist in Hollywood.

When discussing Rachel Zoe Inc’s (RZI) bread and butter, it was revealed that “styling celebrities and a few private clients” remains the primary moneymaker.

Zoe revealed “Sometimes princesses will fly in for three days from Dubai or Russia or London — that’s always fun.”

Although it’s apparent from The Hollywood Reporter piece that Zoe is extremely busy, the stylist says “if I was really excited about someone and if it was the right fit” she might take on a new client.

Even though it’s not her primary goal to expand her client roster anytime soon, the right person would make it on her short list.

Well except maybe for Snooki,  Jersey Shore’s famous cast member.  Zoe made her feelings about Snooki very clear.   “I don’t have time,” coos Zoe, who says she’s never seen an episode of Jersey Shore. “No really, because she’s so out there right now, that’s like a full-time job. It’s nothing against Snooki.”

Yes, Snooki has a very unique style of dress for her hit MTV reality show, but she could easily be a class act.  Watch out Anne Hathaway.

Actually, if anyone could help Snooki look absolutely amazing it would be Zoe.  Maybe she’s no longer up for a challenge?  Well hey, Snooki, I’d be glad to style you and definitely for a lot less than Rachel, who charges $10,000 per event.

Don’t get me wrong, I think Zoe does an amazing job but I feel bad that she would snub Snooki.  Who wouldn’t want to work with Snooki?  She’s adorable and could rule the world with the right outfits. Plus she has amazing hair.  Snooki if you’re out there…call me.

When it comes to fashion, Britian’s Helena Bonham Carter is truly a mixed bag of tricks.  Listed by E’s Fashion Police as one of the top five celebrities to watch on the Oscar 2011 Red Carpet, Carter indeed was watchable.   Carter, 44, was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for The King’s Speech.

Although she lost The Best Supporting Actress award, Carter won the adoration of E’s Kelly Osbourne who has been crushing on Carter throughout the entire awards season.

While live on E! News during the Academy Awards Red Carpet broadcast Kelly expressed her admiration.

She said to Carter  “I adore you. I love the way that you dress, I love the way you come on the carpet and you set a standard and don’t care what people think. You look beautiful tonight. I am obsessed with you.”   Carter returned the favor telling Kelly “I love you too.”  It was a very touching moment.

Mass Of Curls Piled High On Top Of Head

While many fashionistas deemed Carter to be one of the worst dressed at the  2011 Oscars, some placed her on the best list.  Vanity Fair was one of the magazines which listed her as best dressed.

Ironically, the star who was dressed by Oscar winning costume designer Colleen Atwood, was spotted wearing a flip flop shoe accessory pinned into her mass of chocolate brown shimmering curls which were piled high on her head.   Although Carter’s curls appeared to be unrestrained, at further examination her tresses were masterfully coiffed to give the impression of free form ringlet cascades. E! anchor and reality TV star Giuliana Rancic, or GiGi as Ross Matthews calls her, has to be one of the hardest working anchors in Hollywood.  Not only does the long tressed beautiful blonde appear to work killer hours, she always looks happy, cheerful and welcoming to a vast number of celebrities she meets, greets and interviews on all the major Red Carpet events.

Last night at the 17th Annual SAG awards broadcast from the historic Shrine Auditorium the lovely Giuliana was resplendent in a strapless white gown from Ema Savahl.  Giuliana said “I’m loving it right now” and she swished around a bit.  She said “I think the last time I wore white was my wedding day.”

While her job looks glamorous, keep in mind she has to stand on those carpets with her beautiful smile during rain of shine, heat or cold and dressed to the nines.

The E celeb stands in sky high designer shoes (Jimmy Choos shoes last night) which probably aren’t created for standing for hours at a time.  She also has to worry about asking appropriate but interesting questions, being entertaining, showing humor without sarcasm and appearing to have fun.

When all the craziness on the Red Carpet is ended, Giuliana then has to hustle to watch the various award shows so she can chat at the after parties, and appear on E! to discuss fashion, hair and accessory hits and misses.  (more…)
