Carson Kressley’s Top Five Academy Award Fashions

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Queer Guy fashion and beauty commentator Carson Kressley was a very special guest on the Oprah “After The Oscars” show to talk about his top five fashion icons.

Oprah asked Carson his opinion of the fashions in general at the 2010 Oscars.  He said “you know for the last couple of years it’s been toned down on the Red Carpet and last night was a great kinda ‘WOW, vigorous’ you’re always looking for those couple of WOW dresses.  And they were there.”

Carson’s top five included some controversial picks which some fashion police gurus would disagree with.  Listed below are Carson’s top five 2010 Oscar fashionistas in reverse countdown order from 5 to 1:

5.   Anna Kendrick - Carson said “kinda surprising, but just soft and pretty was Anna Kendrick from “Up In The Air.”  He continued, “we didn’t see a lot of this floaty kind of gauzy kinda of Godess-y look, but it was so pretty.  So beautiful, it was Elie Saab Couture, it was just shown on the runway this January.  And what’s nice about it, it was just very very pretty.  Her character in that movie was like so harsh and like by the book in her little business suit.  So it was nice change of pace for her.”  Oprah agreed with the character wearing the “yes, yes, yes wearing the little business suits.”

4.   Queen Latifah - “Didn’t she look amazing?  I thought she’s never looked better.  She was wearing this mermaid shaped dress in this beautiful kinda blush, pinky, orchid color.  A one shoulder which is a good trend for the night.  Very flattering for her shape.  And just the perfect hair and the perfect jewelry.  It just really worked.  It was Badgley and Mischka.”

Oprah “I would agree with you.  Beautiful”

3. Vera Farmiga - She was in Marchesa.  He said “this was a little bit of a controversial dress because it was so over the top.  And it was either you loved it or you hated it.  And I loved it just because it was the Oscars and you want drama.  You want a powerful dramatic look.  And it really stood out.  She’s not been a standout on the red carpets in the other award shows.  So I think it was kinda a leap of faith.”

Oprah said “it’s kind of interesting.  Somebody told me they saw her on  the Red Carpet and she said she loved the dress and didn’t care what anybody else said. And I thought ‘that’s what you got to do’ especially in this world.  Wear it, own it.”

Carson “That’s exactly right.  That’s what you’ve got to do. Oscar night, you know, it’s a once in a lifetime moment.  It’s like your wedding day or something that’s probably never going to happen again.  Wear what you love.  And that’s my advice to people on the street too.  Wear what you love.”

(Image of Vera Farmiga - Courtesy of ABC.com - Oscar.com - All Rights Reserved)

2. Jennifer Lopez - “This was my ‘WOW’ dress. It was unbelievable.  I mean, you don’t want to be safe at the Oscars.  Not like you’re going to Ralph’s (a California grocery chain) to pick up some oranges.  You want to look amazing and this was that ‘oh my gosh stunner.’  And this was a real trend on the carpets, to see these really kinda architectural shapes.”

He continued “Not so Grecian, not so pleated but really kind of architectural geometric shapes and it was pale pale pink.  It’s Armani Prive.  She knows how to rock it.  Jenny from The Block.”

Oprah agreed “Jenny From The Block”

1.  Sandra Bullock - “And my number one, and I was just so excited for her, was Sandra Bullock.  And it’s not just because she was here.  Because you know, last night (at the Oscars) when I saw her, it’s a fitted Marchesa, with antique beading and antique embroidery.”  He continued “it was like a liquid champagne kind of metallic.  Like another big trend with the metallics.  I just thought she looked like she came to get her Oscar.”

Oprah “she said that antique beading was so heavy in the dress and as the night wore on it got heavier and heavier.”

(Image of Jennifer Lopez - Courtesy of ABC.com - Oscar.com - All Rights Reserved)

Carson continued “and she (Sandra) was so modest when she arrived she said ‘oh, I don’t know if I’m going to win.’  Her stylist knew she was going to win and said ‘wear this, it’ll match the Oscar.”

The crowd went crazy with applause and Oprah said “wow” and Oprah pointed to the side of the stage.  “There she is over there.”

At that point Sandra who had been on the program earlier stuck her head out and made a “call me” sign to Carson.

Her eye popping gown was accessorized with double-platform satin Versace sandals.  She carried a beautiful dark gold Ferragamo leather envelope clutch with a contrasting pale pink stone clasp.  Her spectacular jewels were by Van Cleef & Arpels.

Demi’s Romantic Knot Hairstyle

Demi’s glossy chocolate brown tresses were brushed up and over to one side of her head from a smooth part and gathered behind one ear.

The soft layered knot completely covered one ear on one side of Demi’s scalp and ended in one long sensual tendril which extended below Demi’s chin.  The beautiful hairstyle showcased the star’s beautiful skin, eyes and top of her shoulders. (more…)

Cameron Diaz And Steve Carell Present 2010 Oscar Award To “Up”

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

Cameron Diaz looked gorgeous at the 2010 Oscars, held at the Kodak Theatre on Sunday (March 7) in Hollywood where she was a presenter with Steve Carell (The Office) for Best Animated Feature.

The lovely actress wore a stunning Oscar de la Renta long champanged tulle strapless gown with metallic ribbon and gold paillette embroidery.  Her gown was from the designer’s Fall 2010 collection.  She looked absolutely breathtakingly beautiful.  The best I have seen her in a very long time.

Steve said to the audience “when you are as beautiful as Cameron and I, it’s somewhere between irony and tragedy to appear in films where people can’t see our faces.”  Cameron added “and bodies.”  Steve said “especially bodies.”  Cameron said “tonight’s nominees represent a field which has made such incredible strides that watching their dazzling images is almost as exciting as looking as us now.”

Cameron said “when we’re making movies…she said wait a minute…they didn’t fix the teleprompter, sooo.”  Steve said “OK, this was originally written for Cameron and Jude Law.  I stepped in at the last minute.”  Cameron said “thanks Jude, I mean Steve.”

Cameron said “the truth is that both Steve and I are both fans of Animated Features.  Here are some of the stars of this year’s films to talk about what it means to be nominated and what it means to them.”

The film “The Fantastic Mr. Fox” showed the main character, Mr. Fox, being interviewed by another animated character.  The interviewer had Barbara Walters voice and the voice of the Mr. Fox, was of course George Clooney.  Then the animated fox looked at the list of the films that they were nominated with and Mr. Fox said “these are all animated films.  I thought we got nominated for real movies?”

Coraline also appeared as voiced by Dakota Fanning and The Secret Of Kells character appeared as well as The Prince And The Frog.

The stunning 37 year old Cameron finished her Academy Award look with a Roger Vivier Haute Couture Sesame clutch, gold satin Wagner pumps by Brian Atwood and white gold jewelry by Cartier in the form of hooped earrings.  Stunning.

Cameron rocked her signature red lip, and a relatively sleek but classic side-swept hairstyle. Oscar is a classic choice for Hollywood’s biggest night and for Cam.

Kate Hudson Red Carpet Chignons And Knots For 2010

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Beautiful blonde Kate Hudson admitted to Elle magazine that in order to prepare for her newest role in the movie Earthbound, she abstained from alcohol and lost 20 pounds!

“And I love my glass of wine. I love tequila,” Kate said. “To be in New York for two weeks and not have one beverage! I’m not sure I’ve ever done that.”

(Image of Kate Hudson at 2010 Golden Globe Awards - DailyCeleb.com - All Rights Reserved)

The pain of no alcohol certainly was worth it.  Kate Hudson was the Queen of The Red Carpets at the recent 2010 Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards.

At both events the stunning blonde wore her hair in glorious hairstyles to accent her beautiful winter white gowns.

2010 Golden Globes

At the 67th Golden Globes the 30 year old Kate was resplendent in a white hot Marchesa strapless silk crepe structured gown (from the Marchesa bridal collection) with a long train.  Her accessories included Casadei’s Signature 3504 triple platform pumps, and a bracelet by Stephen Russell Contemporary Collection. The stark white skirt was flared which worked perfectly with Kate’s body.

Kate, who was one of the presenters at the Globes recently turned up her acting buzz by her singing and dancing performance in “Nine”.

At the Golden Globes she wore her hair in a soft nape neck tucked under twist.

Her celebrity hairdresser, David Babaii, has been Kate’s mane man for quite some time and together they have coiffed Kate in an amazing array of Red Carpet hairstyles.

For the 2010 Golden Globes David coiffed Kate’s tresses in a combo style which was elegance married to California cool.  Afterall, Kate is a native California girl who loves her beachy blonde strands. (more…)

Kyra Sedgwick Dished On SAG Red Carpet About The Closer

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

The first celebrity interview on People and TNT’s SAG Awards was held by the gorgeous Thea Andrews (wearing a one shoulder red draping gown) with a breathtakingly beautiful Kyra Sedgwick who was nominated for a Outstanding Performer For A Female Actor in a Drama Series.

(Image of Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon at 2010 SAG Awards - DailyCeleb.com - All Rights Reserved)

The star of the popular “The Closer” on TNT (I’m a fan) was stunning in a strapless white Vera Wang gown accented by sheer silver, white and gray banding at the waist and diagonal across the top of the gown.   Kyra’s Vera Wang was accented by a gorgeous brooch pinned at the waist.

Her jewelry and accessories were minimal but her gown was a perfect fit.  She looked like a cross between a Grecian Gown and an angel.  Her make-up was perfection.  Her eyes were highlighted by her hairstyle and looked amazing. (more…)
