Two Texas (Katy) families with children suffering with an autoimmune disease called Alopecia Areata (AA), which causes severe hair loss, will co-chair the “Tortoise and Hair” 5K and 1-mile run/walk in downtown Houston on Saturday, June 27.

The very worthwhile event will be held in conjunction with the 24th annual Alopecia Areata Foundation international conference at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.

Although I am still a workaholic who logs seven days a week on HairBoutique.com, I am happy to report that I have slowed down a bit over the past six months to take better care of me.

Instead of my previous 25/7 work schedule, I now only spend a maximum of five days a week at the HairBoutique office and have taken to working at home on the weekends.  OK, OK, sometimes I have to go in for a few hours on a Saturday but for the most part I work at home on weekends whenever possible.

It is amazing how much stress I have managed to shed by working at home.  While I still Tweet and Blog nonstop, I am also able to catch up on all the TV programs I have taped on the TIVO throughout the prior week.  I am just now catching up with prior tapes of Oprah, Ellen and Bonnie Hunt. (more…)

Traditionally fibroid tumors, which are usually non-cancerous growths, have been the primary reason for women over 35 years of age to undergo hysterectomies as well as causing fertility challenges.

Medical studies have shown that women of color have a much higher likelihood of developing fibroids, often faster growing and larger, than Caucasian women.

Medical literature has reported cases of fibroid tumors growing as large as lemons and grapefruits to as large as over 100 pounds although the majority, 75% - 80% or more, remain the size of grapes, walnuts or almonds.  Some are actually so small they require microscopes to see them. (more…)
