Will Fat Tax Come To United States?

Now that Denmark has imposed a “fat tax” on foods such as butter and oil as a way to curb unhealthy eating habits experts in the United States wonder if a similar fax tax will come to this country to help raise money and serve to discourage people from eating fatty foods which can lead to heart disease and death.

Ole Linnet Juul, food director at Denmark’s Confederation of Industries, says the tax will increase the price of a burger by around $0.15 and raise the price of a small package of butter by around $0.40.

The tax was approved by large majority in a parliament in March as a move to help increase the average life expectancy of Danes.

Denmark, like some other European countries, already has higher fees on sugar, chocolates and soft drinks, but Linnet Juul says he believes the Nordic country is the first in the world to tax fatty foods.

Hungary’s Hamburger Law

In September, Hungary introduced a new tax popularly known as the “Hamburger Law,” but that only involves higher taxes on soft drinks, pastries, salty snacks and food flavorings. (more…)

Can You Stay Healthy Without Exercise?

Can You Stay Healthy Without Exercise? If you have no time to exercise regularly, you’re asking for trouble.  Seriously!

Regular exercise can protect against heart disease, stroke, blood pressure, diabetes, osteoporosis and more. It also helps you to relax and sleep better at night. So, you’d think most people would find the time to exercise, right?

Unfortunately most people think they are either too busy to exercise or they do exercise but only once in a while.

On top of that they overload their bodies with heavy, unhealthy meals that pollute them because the foods they gobble up never get digested properly. So, healthy seeming people walk around with poisonous waste that swims inside their system. Yuck!

If your diet harms your body and you don’t exercise regularly, your body becomes a magnet for a range of illnesses, from small aches and pains to life-threatening diseases like cancer and heart disease.

You see, our organs need to be cleansed in order to work efficiently. If you want to keep your body healthy, you must eat alkalizing foods that hose down waste out of your system. It makes sense because you don’t want it there! Try The Alkaline Cook Book and see how easy it is to keep your body divinely clean. (more…)

Is It Really Your Fault That You’re Fat?

Is It Really Your Fault That You’re Fat?
Expert Reveals How Packaged Foods Are The Likely Cause

Is It Really Your Fault That You’re Fat?As Americans, we represent the fattest nation on the planet. And that’s not a contest we should be so quick to win every year.

Mannie Barling knows this better than most, because he’s seen it from both sides – as a cancer patient who became obese and as an attorney for big healthcare.

“We pride ourselves in this country for having the safest food supply in the world, but nothing could be further from the truth,” said Barling, co-author of It’s Not Your Fault – Weight Gain, Obesity and Food Addiction (www.HowToEliminatePain.com). “It is the chemical additives like MSG, dyes, high fructose corn syrup and other ingredients used in the more than 14,000 packaged foods sold in the US that made us the most obese country on Earth.”

Barling served as in-house counsel two of the first HMOs in Los Angeles, including one that treated more than 13,000 patients a month.

Barling actively participated in the management of these clinics and convalescent hospitals including reviewing physician utilization, interviewing doctors and specialists and evaluating malpractice claims. This experience exposed him to some of the more dramatic patient outcomes that arose from obesity. But that’s not his only source of experience.

“In the 1990s, I was diagnosed with malignant colon cancer, Crohn’s disease, IBD, IBS, gout and arthritis, and I was given two years to live,” he added. (more…)

Are Our Kids Getting Fatter And Hungrier?

Are Our Kids Getting Fatter And Hungrier?
Advocate Reveals Connection Between Obesity and Hunger and How to Stop the Trend

If the war against childhood obesity was a race, America would still be at the starting line.

Are Our Kids Getting Fatter And Hungrier?Childhood obesity has tripled in the past 30 years. About one out of every three children or teens is overweight or at risk of being overweight. Because children’s bodies are still developing, the damage to organs triggers medical problems extending throughout their lifetimes, according to a report issued by First Lady Michelle Obama’s Task Force on Childhood Obesity.

Nearly 75 percent of Americans will be overweight or obese by 2019, and that condition will drag down the economy and impoverish the nation. What’s worse is that our nation is growing fatter at the same time it is growing hungrier. Another study by New York’s Food Research and Action Center describes another dilemma — a new definition of hunger that actually describes how families can become obese at the same time they are going hungry.

“The term the scientists used is ‘food-insecure,’” said Erin Baker, founder of Erin Baker’s Wholesome Baked Goods a (www.ErinBakers.com) bakery that combines the appeal of baked goodies with nutritional benefits to help fight obesity. “It describes the condition that hits a huge sector of the population. Low-income people tend to seek out cheaper food which in most cases is fast food, the result is a high calorie diet with poor nutritional value — just a lot of empty calories void of fruits, vegetables and grains. Tips For Reducing Heart Disease And Heart Attack Risks

Tips For Reducing Heart Disease And Heart Attack Risks Beloved movie star Elizabeth Taylor recently died from congestive heart failure.   Heart disease has touched my life on a number of fronts.  I lost both my father and beloved husband to heart disease.  They were both way too young too die.  As a result I am always checking out new information about heart disease treatment and risk management.

Heart Disease Triggers

Heart disease results primarily from the narrowing of the arteries which pump blood, oxygen and nutrients to the heart.  Many people don’t realize that heart disease is the number-one killer for both men and women in America.  Coronary artery disease is traditionally traced to a condition known atherosclerosis which is the build-up of plaque and cholesterol deposits on arterial walls.

This causes the narrowing of the arteries blocking the natural flow of oxygenated blood to the heart.  Known triggers include smoking, lack of exercise, poor diet, excessive alcohol consumption and even extreme cold which can cause an arterial spasm.  Extreme stress also has a direct link to heart disease and potential heart attacks.  Other major risk factors include high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity.
