Effect Of Not Eating

When you’re working on a weight loss program it’s important to understand that not eating can cause as many problems as eating too much.

Although you may think that severely limiting your daily caloric intake will help you lose weight faster, in reality, it could actually sabotage your weight loss program.

According to obesity specialists cutting food intake too severely can ultimately prevent weight loss.

Why?  Not eating enough calories can slow down your metabolism.  When you’re not eating enough calories your body may decide you’re starving and try to

If you’re on a weight loss plan be sure to eat at least the number of calories that your body burns while you’re at rest.

Sample Equation

The sample equation below shows you how to calculate the number of calories. (more…)

Jessica Has New Plan In Place To Lose Pregnancy Weight

Jessica Has New Plan In Place To Lose Pregnancy Weight

Jessica Simpson, 31, is reportedly about to sign a $4 million deal with Weight Watchers (WW) to shed all of her baby weight.

Jess officially announced on Halloween that she and fiance Eric Johnson are expecting their first child, believed to be a girl, early in 2012.

Ironically, Jessica was in talks with WW before she became pregnant to become the new face of the diet brand.  Her unplanned pregnancy actually turned out to be a godsend.  Now she can lose her pregnancy weight with the Weight Watcher’s points system and get paid nicely for the opportunity.

Under the contract, Jessica would reportedly have one year to use the point-counting system to “lose a significant amount of weight”.

Jessica who had a star-studded baby shower at her Hollywood home this past weekend told the media she loves showing off her new figure although she agreed that she’s “bigger than ever”.

She noted “I’m definitely bigger than I’ve ever been [but I've] never felt so connected with my body in my life.”  Jessica reportedly said: “I like wearing things more fitted. You want to show off your bump! It’s just so fun. You don’t want to wear muumuus so you can moo around town.”

Previous faces of Weight Watchers include Sarah Ferguson and Jennifer Hudson.

Trade Crayons For Queso

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011

Trade Crayons For QuesoWhile I love to eat food, I’m not a foodie in the true sense.  However, I do live in Texas and queso is an important food group along with chips and margaritas.  Maybe that’s a subgroup?  Who knows.

Regardless, I was amused and then touched when I received an email from Abuelo’s offering to trade Crayons For Queso to help our teachers get ready for school.   With all the budget cuts schools, teachers and students need all the help they can get.  The deal lasts until August 28th, 2011.

Participating Abuelo restaurants will trade a brand new 16 ct box of crayons for some yummy queso.

If you’re not into crayons then you can substitute a 12 pack of new ball point pens, a 12 pack of new pencils, 2 packages of new looseleaf spiral paper, 2 brand new spiral notebooks or 2 boxes of new tissues for the same deal.

Of course you have to spring for your own Margaritas, but the queso and chips are the trade.  What a deal.  You can do your part to help the teachers and the kids and satisfy your queso cravings at the same time.

Even better deal.  If queso doesn’t tickle your tastebuds than Abuelos will offer your quacamole or layered dip or give you a complimentary dessertt of flan or margarita pie.  Don’t forget, this deal is good through August 28th, 2011.

For more details visit Abuelos to find a participating Crayons For Queso restaurant.

Foods That Can Make You Fat

Foods That Can Make You FatFoods That Can Make You Fat

If you’re trying to loose weight, but not having much success it may be that you’re selecting all the wrong items to eat and drink. Just because something is listed as sugar free it may actually make you fat and may be very bad for your overall health.

One key principle to remember for a healthy body and foods that won’t make you fat is to select foods that are living and not dead.

Foods which grow such as fruits, vegetables and nuts, as an example, are naturally good for your body and will help you lose weight.  Foods that do not grow are considered dead such as white breads, processed foods or similar, and will decrease your health and cause the body to gain weight in many cases.

Listed below are some foods which nutrition experts believe can block you from losing weight or even make you fat while trying to watch your diet.

1.  Diet Soda

According to findings from the San Antonio Heart Study just one daily drink of diet soda can boost your risk of becoming overweight by 65%.  Since diet soda tastes sweet your body expects it to have calories and when the soda doesn’t provide the calories to match the sweetness on your tongue your body goes into serious craving mode.

Instead of diet soda add a splash of lemon or lime to your Evian or seltzer water.  Even better, fresh lemon juice squeezed into water will help the body to naturally detox.

2.  Sugar-Sweetened Beverages

A recent study published in Pediatrics and led by researchers at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health found that sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) have a strong link to the rise in obesity.  Sodas, fruit drinks, punches and sports drinks are high in calories and are considered empty calories which add to weight gain. Is It Really Your Fault That You’re Fat?

Is It Really Your Fault That You’re Fat?
Expert Reveals How Packaged Foods Are The Likely Cause

Is It Really Your Fault That You’re Fat?As Americans, we represent the fattest nation on the planet. And that’s not a contest we should be so quick to win every year.

Mannie Barling knows this better than most, because he’s seen it from both sides – as a cancer patient who became obese and as an attorney for big healthcare.

“We pride ourselves in this country for having the safest food supply in the world, but nothing could be further from the truth,” said Barling, co-author of It’s Not Your Fault – Weight Gain, Obesity and Food Addiction (www.HowToEliminatePain.com). “It is the chemical additives like MSG, dyes, high fructose corn syrup and other ingredients used in the more than 14,000 packaged foods sold in the US that made us the most obese country on Earth.”

Barling served as in-house counsel two of the first HMOs in Los Angeles, including one that treated more than 13,000 patients a month.

Barling actively participated in the management of these clinics and convalescent hospitals including reviewing physician utilization, interviewing doctors and specialists and evaluating malpractice claims. This experience exposed him to some of the more dramatic patient outcomes that arose from obesity. But that’s not his only source of experience.

“In the 1990s, I was diagnosed with malignant colon cancer, Crohn’s disease, IBD, IBS, gout and arthritis, and I was given two years to live,” he added. (more…)
