Bad Hair Day Affirmations

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

Although I have spent many years fine tuning the art of having good hair, there are days that no matter what, I’m in the bad hair day zone.

Instead of letting it ruin my day, I usually spritz it with my favorite dry shampoo, fluff it up and wrap it into a bun.  I also will make it a point to add one of my favorite hair accessories so it neutralizes any less than wonderful feelings about how my hair is misbehaving.

Over the years I have also developed some great “bad hair” affirmations I say that help me reset my mind from feeling unhappy about my hair or appearance to feeling great.

I’m a big believer in affirmations due to the recommendation of a former fitness trainer who encouraged me to listen to affirmations while working out to help adjust my attitude.  For me, they work.  Do they work for everyone?  They may or may not, but it never hurts to give them a try.

Listed below are some of my own hair affirmations that I use when having a bad hair day, feeling blah about my hair or just in general. (more…)

How To Sell Hair

Sunday, December 14th, 2008

I first heard about selling hair in O’Henry’s Gift Of The Magi. In the story, Jim Dillingham and his wife Della are a young couple very much in love but with very little money.  In fact, they are in such a bad economic situation they have almost no money for Christmas gifts for each.

In order to get her beloved husband the gift of a special chain for his prized pocked watch from his father Della sells her very long and gorgeous knee length hair to a man who wants to make it into a wig.

Meanwhile husband Jim sells the pocked watch to be able to buy Della a set of beautiful tortoise shell combs for her gorgeous hair.

Although the couple is very sad to find the gift they bought for each other was useless since Jim no long had the watch for his wife’s new chain and she no longer has her hair for the combs which she sold to buy the watch chain.

Speed ahead to 2008 and the current economic crisis.  Selling hair to make money has again become an option for those with long and lush hair.    Besides selling hair people are also now selling blood and other appropriate body fluids. What will they think of next? (more…)

Popular Hair Products That Get The Axe

Saturday, December 13th, 2008

Just like new television shows that start all shiny and new in the Fall Season, catch your interest, then suddenly get cancelled, hair care products sometimes suffer the same fate.

While it’s possible you might be able to read about why a network pulled the plug on a TV show, its unlikely hair consumers will get a straight answer on the reasons behind why their favorite products are disappearing from shelves or on the Web.

As an online retailer with more than ten years experience selling a wide range of hair care products, I can definitely offer some insights into why some beloved hair care products do a unexpected disappearing act.

Listed below are some of the most common reasons for hair care product death:

1.  The Products Do Not Sell As Well As Expected.

Just as ratings are a key factor for whether a TV show survives, product sales determine whether a hair care product line will continue to be produced.  This is often most true of small boutique or celebrity lines.

Hair care products launched by huge corporations like Proctor & Gamble (P&G) might be given a lot more time to “find their audience” of hair care fans.  Obviously P&G has very deep pockets to advertise and promote a new hair care offering, which literally costs many millions of dollars to unveil.

Smaller boutique manufacturers are sometimes operating on a shoestring.  If a product doesn’t hit quickly, it gets dumped.  This is especially true of celebrity hair care lines or similar lines launched with very tight marketing budgets. Nowadays it takes many millions of dollars to successfully market to a very crowded hair care product world. (more…)

When Hand Made Products Become Customer Nightmares

Friday, December 12th, 2008

One of the first lessons I learned when opening the HairBoutique.com Marketplace was that what one customer finds charming, quaint and beautiful will cause another customer to scream foul. Why? The retail world is composed of millions of customers with a variety of tastes.

In the early days of HairBoutique.com the word “Internet” when used to describe any type of business was a bad word in many industries.

Since my chosen industries included fashion, accessories, beauty and hair products, I struggled with getting manufacturers, wholesalers, jobbers and third party reps to take HairBoutique.com’s Marketplace seriously. Afterall, were selling on the “Internet”. (more…)

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

Santa Clause wants all of his good little boys and girls to be forewarned that if you plan to give gift cards to your loved ones around the holidays, you need to be careful that the cards will be honored after January.

Many of Santa’s toy shops are going out of business after Santa comes by to see them one last time.

Listed below are Santa’s shops that are closing.  If you buy gift cards there, be sure that you can use them. (more…)
