Hair Frizz Busting Spray – How To

One of the best oils for adding instant hydration and eliminating frizz is jojoba oil.  Aloe gel is also great for adding moisture while controlling frizz.

Dehydration and frizz are both is an ongoing challenges for naturally curly, wavy or textured hair.  Aloe gel also helps to define texture (curl clumping, waves, coils, kinks, ringlets or similar).

It’s important to keep long hair or naturally dry hair hydrated to prevent tangles, breaks, splits or similar.

Jojoba Oil + Aloe Vera Gel + Glycerine & Essential Oils

When you combine jojoba oil with aloe vera gel and mix in a little glycerin, essential oils and  you get a home made frizz busting recipe for a wide range of hair types, textures, lengths and conditions.

The recipe can be used as a leave-in detangling conditioner or as a pre-shampoo treatment.  It can be used on wet, damp or dry hair.  If preferred, it can be applied before wet bunning.

This basic recipe has been around for many years and has appeared on a wide range of long hair (Kimberlily’s long hair anti-frizz recipe), naturally textured and similar hair forums, including HairBoutique.com’s Hair Talk Forum which was one of the very first hair focused forums on the Web since the mid 90s. Detangling Curly Hair

Detangling Curly Hair

Many people would be surprised to discover that detangling curly hair is one of the most important steps to creating perfect curl clumps.

Listed below are some tips to consider when detangling curly hair:

1.  Every head of curly or naturally textured hair is different from every other type of hair. What works for one person may not work for others.  Find the detangling system which works best for you, your hair and your lifestyle.
2.  Never detangle wet or dry curly hair with a brush.  When brushing dry hair frizz may occur.  When brushing wet hair there is a risk of ripping, tearing and breakage.  All hair is most delicate when wet.
3.  It’s always best to detangle curly hair before cleansing it.  If tangled hair is immersed into water full of pre-existing knots the water may only make the tangling worse.
4.  While some people with curly hair do best to detangle after first applying a rinse-out conditioner, others report that detangling works best with no conditioner of any type.
5.  Rinse-out conditioners may work best in the shower,  but may not be as effective as detanglers out of the shower.  Not all detangling products are created equal.  Find the products which work best for you and your hair type, texture and condition. Continue reading “Detangling Curly Hair” »

Curly Hair Changes Due To Hormones

Curly Hair Changes Due To Hormones

Naturally Curly Hairstyle From Goldwell

Although it doesn’t happen to everyone, some people with naturally textured hair such as natural waves, curls, coils or kinks may notice that as they get older and their hormones change so does their curls.

Natural curls can also change during or after pregnancy, when taking some types of hormone replacement therapies and even in some cases with birth control pills.

A good friend of mine who just turned 36 and had her first baby a year ago noticed that her previously tight curls had dropped and loosed up since she got pregnant and had her baby.  She hasn’t used chemicals of any kind on her hair because she was pregnant and then didn’t have time to mess with her hair after the baby was born.

Even though she uses a Low Poo cleansing formula, only washes once a week, detangles her curls in the shower, plops her curls and air dries, she is still having curl clumping issues.

Even though she’s tried a myriad of leave-in conditioners, creams, gels, mousses and sprays her roots and ends are straight with only curls forming in the middle of her chin length strands.   Even worse, the more she tried to reform her once glorious curls she finds the products are leaving her hair sticky and crunchy. Curly Hairstyles Perfect Curls How To

Curly Hairstyles Perfect Curls How ToThis naturally curly hairstyle is built upon the concept of developing a frizz-free base by apply frizz-busting products such as gels, creams or serums on soaking wet hair which attacks frizz before the hair dries.

Step By Step Instructions

Follow the steps below to create this natural hair style:

1.  Detangle hair completely.
2.  Cleanse hair in lukewarm water with your favorite no frizz cleansing process such as Diluted Shampoo (DS), Conditioner Only (CO) Wash, Water Only or a No Poo formulation.   Use products designed to hydrate and block frizz such as Frizz-Ease® shampoo formulas.
3.  Rinse cleansing formula completely.  Apply a hydrating conditioner such as  Frizz-Ease® Hydrating Conditioners or similar.  Separate conditioner prepped hair into individual horizontal sections and detangle with your fingers or a wide tooth comb.
4.  After hair is detangled rinse well and then finish with a cool or cold wash.
5.  Towel blot hair just a little bit.  Keep a water bottle handy to keep hair soaking wet to attack frizz.  Apply frizz busting leave-in cream or serum to palms of hands and then distribute completely through wet strands.  Avoid direct application of leave-in frizz busting products to roots.  Comb with fingers or a wide tooth hair friendly comb or pick.   Adjust amount of defrisant applied to hair length and thickness. Natural Hair Styles 2011 Largest Afro

Natural Hair Styles 2011 Largest Afro The 2012 edition of the Guinness Book of Records has been published, after 56 years charting the world’s fastest, longest, tallest, widest and every other conceivable type of record available.

The book includes the person who is now the record holder for the world’s largest Afro hairstyle which is one of the most popular of natural hair styles.

The BBC recently did an interview with Aevin Dugas, who is the new holder of the 2011  natural hair style record.  During the BBC’s interview they also talked with Craig Glenday, the book’s editor in chief.

Ms. Dugas explained to the BBC’s Lucy Hockings how much effort goes into maintaining the style and how it gets a little too hot in the summer months.

Ms. Dugas is a social worker from New Orleans. Besides the heat, her record breaking Afro can be just a pain in the head.  She told the media that one time “I slammed my hair in a car door getting in.” Continue reading “Natural Hair Styles 2011 Largest Afro” »
