Janele Monae Big Beautiful Pouf Hairstyle How To

Janele Monae Big Beautiful Pouf Hairstyle How ToJanelle Monáe (born December 1, 1985) is an American singer, songwriter, dancer, and performer. She is currently signed to the Wondaland Arts Society and Bad Boy/Atlantic Records.

Monáe first introduced herself to the music scene with a conceptual EP, Metropolis: Suite I (The Chase), which gained her a Grammy nomination for her track “Many Moons”. The EP failed to make much of an impact commercially peaking at 115 in the United States.

In 2010 Monáe released her first studio album, The ArchAndroid (Suites II and III), a concept album sequel to her first EP.

It was released to general acclaim from critics and gained a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary R&B Album; the song “Tightrope” was also nominated for “Best Urban/Alternative Performance”. The album also made more of an impact commercially, peaking at number 17 on the US Billboard 200 chart.

Janelle’s Tuxedos And Hairline Puff

Janelle is not only famous for her voice. She has a signature hairline puff which is styled into a high pompadour. Not only does she wear a unique avant garde hairstyle, she’s famous for wearing a series of tuxedos.

Janele Monae Big Beautiful Pouf Hairstyle How ToJanelle is currently featured in the August 2011 issue of Glamour magazine where she dishes her her unique fashions, hair and overall style. Why does she wear tuxedos?

She told Glamour “I’m just really attracted to a very tailored, classic look that commands attention,” Janele said “The tuxedo, especially on women, does that, I think, because of the stark black and white. It’s not a trendy thing. It’s timeless. It’s transcendent. The kind of thing you can give to your grandchildren.”

How To Copy Janelle Monae’s Big Beautiful Pouf

Janelle’s Pouf works best of hair which is naturally curl, kinky, coily or similar. Naturally textured hair works best in general. To get the pouf the front or top of the hair has to be the proper length to be arranged in the hairline pompadour.

1: Cleanse hair in lukewarm water with product and techniques which are best for your hair type, texture and condition. Rinse well, apply rinse-out conditioner and detangle in the shower with fingers or a wide tooth comb. Rinse and finish with a cool or cold water final rinse.

2: Towel blot to remove excess moisture. Apply a leave-in cocktail which may include leave-in conditioner, defrisant and curl enhancing cream or similar.

4: Once hair is 100% dry, bend over at the waist and use a Conair or similar boar bristle paddle brush and brush hair forward towards the hairline.

5: Use fingers to tuck, roll and arrange hair down towards the scalp to form a pouf. Secure rolled pouf with Goody Simple Styles Volume Boost Comb. Using both hands, mold pouf into desired pompadour shape. Direct the rest of the hair back towards the back of the head and roll into a twist. This allows you to show off the front pouf.

6: Mist the new pouf and the rest of your hair with a firm holding anti-frizz spray.

Summary

Concerning her singing roots, Monae says in Glamour, “It’s just kinda in my DNA.” Her family has been instrumental in grooming her extraordinary pipes. “When I was growing up, both my grandmothers would play the organ and we would all sing. There’s no time that I don’t sing. I believe in that saying that you’re nothing without song.”
