Help For Hair Loss And Thinning Due To Cancer Treatments In The UKHairdressers at a Coventry salon can now offer specialist advice to people with cancer, thanks to a new venture with Macmillan Cancer Support.

Staff at Toni & Guy, in Market Way, city center, have undergone training to help them understand the emotional and practical issues surrounding the sensitive nature of hair loss and hair thinning due to cancer treatment – both before and afterwards.

The training included giving advice on wigs – the coloring, style and cut of the wig as well as ordering it in to the salon.   It is also be possible to bring your own wig into the salon for styling.

All men, women and children affected by cancer will be able to get help through the ‘Strength in Style’ scheme and Coventry Toni & Guy is one of just 85 salons across the UK to offer this service.

Shaun Patrick, manager and Strength in Style consultant, said: “We’ve learned that for some people hair loss can be one of the hardest parts of cancer treatment so we’re very excited to provide such an important service to people affected by cancer in the local community.”

Sally Hill, partnership manager for Macmillan Cancer Support, added: “We are very excited about our partnership with Toni & Guy.

“Hair loss can have a huge impact on a person undergoing cancer treatment and their relationship with a hairdresser is extremely personal. Strength in Style will help us in our ambition to reach and improve the lives of people affected by cancer by giving them the strength and confidence to have more good days.”

Staff will also be fundraising throughout the year for Macmillan, which provides information, medical care, financial help and emotional support to people diagnosed with cancer as well as their family and carers.
