Crimped hair was the go to hairstyle for many Supermodels back in the 1980s.  Barbara Streisand also made crimped hair popular with her big crimped hairstyles.  One of the reasons crimped hair went out of style is due to the heat damage which could occur on tresses which were crimped by hot crimping irons on a regular basis.

Crimpers combined with intense backcombing are key to creating the Supermodel hairstyle.  NBC’s “The Voice” features four famous superstar coaches.  One of the coaches, Christina Aguilera has been rocking some amazing hairstyles on The Voice created by superstar celebrity hairstylist David Babaii.

On  one of the recent results shows Christina wore her white blonde platinum hair in a skyhigh crimped and backcombed updo hairstyle.

Christina’s hair was highlighted on one side with an array of light and dark pink strands which appeared to be clip-in colored hair extensions.  The superstar’s crimped blonde updo hairstyle had the signature exaggerated shape and strong outline along with the pop of pink color throughout the side-swept fringe.  It was stunning.

How To Hairstyles:  Step by Step

If you wish to copy Christina’s crimped blonde updo keep in mind that combining hot crimping irons with backcombing on bleached hair can be very damaging.  If you’re going to re-create the style consider starting with either clip-in or fusion hair extensions which can be crimped throughout the outside of the hairstyle to prevent damage to your natural hair.Crimped Blonde Updo Hairstyle How ToThis hairstyle works best for hair which is shoulder length or longer which is either straight or with a slight texture.  This style can also be adjusted for natural curls, coils or similar.  Hair can be extended to create the bun or a clip-in bun can be added.

Christina has naturally textured hair but according to most industry insiders who hair on The Voice has been a combination of lace front wigs with add-on extensions.

However, you may wish to straighten your natural texture to make it easier to create the updo.  Ultimately you should experiment to find the best look for your hair.

1.  Cleanse hair in lukewarm water with products designed for your hair type, texture, length and condition.  Use your own custom cleansing system from shampoo, low poo, diluted shampoo (DS), conditioner only (CO), no poo or water only (WO).
2.  Apply rinse-out conditioner in the shower and detangle from the ends up to the roots using a wide tooth comb or your fingers.
3.  Rinse well and finish with a cool or cold water rinse to amp up shine and shimmer.
4.  Towel blot to remove excess moisture.

You may wish to mix a defrisant products along with your styling product to add texture and block frizz at the same time. It is possible to mix Phytodefrisant with your favorite mousse, glaze or paste.

Note: Avoid applying product near the roots which may weigh them down except in the case of adding volume sprays like Phytovolume Actif or similar.

6. Separate hair into 6-8 equal sized sections. The ideal sectioning would include two sections on either side and 4 in the back.
7. If a fringe is desired create it at this point. Use a long tailed comb create desired side part on either side of your head. Blow dry the fringe before drying the rest of the hair.
8. Combine a 1oo% boar bristle paddle brush along with a blow dryer to blow dry each of the 6-8 sections straight. Use a cool setting on a low speed to avoid blowing out the newly formed texture.
9. When hair is completely dry, again separate into 6-8 individual sections.
10. Create beautiful body by misting each section with a volumizing formula. Roll each section of the hair on hot rollers.
11. Allow rollers to completely cool before removing them one at a time.
Crimped Blonde Updo Hairstyle How To12. Separate out the front side-swept fringe from the rest of your hair. Pull the remaining hair back into a high ponytail. Secure with a hair friendly elastic such as a Blax or Bungee.
13. Pin a hair pad or similar in the same color as your current hair underneath the pony base as shown.
14.  Use a crimping iron throughout the top layer of the pony tail hair which will be smoothed down over the hair pad.  Back comb the rest of the non-crimped pony hair for fullness and volume.
15. Once hair is crimped and backcombed to your satisfaction, smooth entire pony over the hair pad, tuck the ends under and pin securely into place with bobby pins the same color as your hair. For more fullness lightly backcomb the pony before smoothing over the hair pad.
16. Lightly tease front fringe section. Smooth strands down and softly sweep back low across forehead to create a soft fringe or pull them in strands across the head to the other side as Christina has done.  If desired, pin in a few clip-in pink or multi-hued extensions.

Note: Optionally this gorgeous updo hairstyle can be created without a fringe. The hairstyle can be modified to work with your specific goals.

17. Finish by using a shine serum like Phyto’s PhyoLisse or Rene Furterer’s Spray Gloss.
Apply the shine serum or spray of choice to the palms of your hands. Rub the product into the palms and then lightly glide over the top of the teased style to add instant shimmer and shine and remove any roughness.
18. Spray well with hairspray like Phytolaque or Phytolaque Soie made with real silk that adds a soft sheen to the final look and will Crimped Blonde Updo Hairstyle How Toalso help soften the overall finish.
19. Allow the hair spray or shine products to completely dry.
