Haunted Collector Reality Series About Haunted Items On SyFyNEW YORK – May 16, 2011 – Ghosts and spirits inhabit more than just homes and buildings – they can also possess objects. In the new Syfy reality series Haunted Collector, which will premiere Wednesday, June 1, at 9PM (ET/PT), a family of paranormal investigators hunt down haunted items bedeviling their owners.

For more than 30 years, eminent paranormal researcher John Zaffis has been a collector. But not of stamps, coins or comic books. He collects objects that have become home to paranormal spirits and/or energy. Each week he and his family help out someone who’s being terrorized by something in their own home. They research the history of objects found in the home and try to identify what is causing the problem.

Along with his son Chris, daughter Aimee, and paranormal investigators Beth Ezzo and Brian Cano, Zaffis, author of the critically acclaimed book “Shadows of the Dark,” tracks down haunted items ranging from Civil War era weapons to strange antiques and unusual toys.

Paranormal Museum In Stratford, Connecticut

Once identified, the items are collected in his paranormal museum in Stratford, Connecticut, where he displays them for safe keeping, while ensuring they are specially stored to keep their powers at bay. Zaffis has also buried certain items in the foundation of the museum to neutralize the negative energy that can emanate from these haunted objects.

Zaffis and his team employ a number of different hi-tech gear to capture paranormal energy/activity, from video and audio recorders and EMF (Electro-Magnetic Field) meters to FLIR cameras which measure temperature fluctuations to a tenth of a degree.

Additionally, they use a variety of “low-tech” methods for their investigations such as talcum powder, wheeled toys and ropes to detect movement of suspected supernatural objects.

Haunted Collector is produced by Gurney Productions. Executive producers are Scott Gurney and Dierdre Gurney.

Hollywood Treasure

Following Haunted Collector is the return of all-new summer episodes of Hollywood Treasure featuring Joe Maddalena – the most prominent auctioneer of original movie, television and pop culture memorabilia. Two half-hour episodes air back-to-back starting Wednesday, June 1, at 10PM and 10:30PM (ET/PT). In the new episodes, Maddalena tracks down one-of-a-kind pieces from Forbidden Planet, Back to the Future and Lost in Space. He also works with Debbie Reynolds, who entrusts Joe with the task of selling her multi-million dollar collection.

Ghost Hunters

To kick off the evening of debuts, Syfy will present a special episode of Ghost Hunters, featuring a case from the team’s very first trip to Hawaii. Special guest Josh Gates (Destination Truth) joins the team as they investigate paranormal claims at the Pacific Aviation Museum in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The museum’s original plane hangars stand as they did on the fateful morning of December 7, 1941, and still bear the bullet holes and bomb craters from the attacks that precipitated U.S. involvement in World War II. Visitors and employees alike have reported several startling experiences at the museum, suggesting that the site’s history has made it a hub for paranormal activity.
