Gwen Stefani’s Biggest Luxury Is A Hair Stylist

Saturday, April 30th, 2011

Gwen Stefanis Biggest Luxury Is A Hair StylistNo Doubt singer Gwen Stefani thinks having a hair stylists on tour with her is the ”luxury of her life”.  Ironically, she still doesn’t trust anyone else to do her make-up and insists upon doing it all herself.

Even though Gwen puts on her own face, she told Elle magazine “for the last couple tours I’ve had hair people, which is the luxury of my life. I’m like, ‘Why did I do it myself this whole time?’”  The platinum blonde rocker admitted she loves being pampered by having her hair done and regrets not getting her own hairdresser much sooner for when she was on tour.

Although she loves the luxury and pampering of having her hair styled by someone else, she confessed that in the past she had a “real problem with make-up artists.”

Her troubles with make-up pros started when she was doing the first No Doubt album which was ultimately shelved.  Gwen decided that her make-up for that first album looked horrible and she looked “ugly”.  She noted “it is the worst make-up.”

Her bad experience from the first No Doubt album gave her the resolve to not let anyone else do her make-up “because they don’t know how to do it.”  Gwen, started doing her make-up “in seventh grade when she learned to put on her make-up in home economics.” Continue reading “Gwen Stefani’s Biggest Luxury Is A Hair Stylist” »

Hair Industry Icon Irvine Rusk’s Ilka Hair Care Line

Saturday, April 30th, 2011

Hair Industry Icon Irvine Rusks Ilka Hair Care LineI recently had the great opportunity to chat with Sherri Jessee about her stunning hair creations and her devotion to the Rusk line of professional hair care products.

During our hour long conversation I asked Sherri about industry icon Irvine Rusk who I had the privilege of meeting back before he sold his eponymous professional hair care line to Conair in 2003.

During our phone interview Sherri told me she trained under Rusk who was “wonderful” when she became part of the Rusk team.

When I inquired about Rusk’s post-retirement projects Sherri told me he and his wife Louise were in the process of creating a brand new line of professional hair care products inspired by plants from Irvine’s native Scotland.  The new Ilka line features sweet gale which is from an area of Scotland not far from where Rusk was raised.

In an interview with Modern Salon Magazine Irvine explained “I became intrigued by this special plant and began to investigate.  He noted “Sweet gale is found only in Scotland and the surrounding area, and a little bit in Canada. The oil from this plant is so special and used in various skin care products, but is not in any hair care line. I became obsessed.” Continue reading “Hair Industry Icon Irvine Rusk’s Ilka Hair Care Line” »

Glee Prom Spoiler Scandal

Saturday, April 30th, 2011

Glee Prom Spoiler ScandalLoose lips pretty much always sink ships.  Right now there’s a big fan uproar over Glee’s Prom leaks from a former Glee extra.

Nicole Crowther, 21, recently used Twitter as her platform to leak possible Glee prom episode secrets.

In the process she potentially spoiled the episode for Gleeks everywhere and enraged executive producer Brad Falchuck to the point that he publicly called her out.

(Image from Glee’s Prom Episode set to air in early May, 2011 – Fox/TV – All Rights Reserved)

Although my own high school prom held in the auditorium at Bishop Du Bourg High School in South St. Louis (where I was known as Karen Marie O’Connor) didn’t have a prom queen and king, I was also the victim of some loose lips.

One of friends shared a big secret about a guy I had been dreaming of going to Prom with for all of senior year.  She told me he was going to ask me to Prom, but then he didn’t and I was heartbroken when I found out he was taking someone else.

Luckily for me, another guy that I really liked asked me to Prom instead. We went and had a fabulous time.  Because our senior class had hundreds of students I managed to go the entire evening without even bumping into the guy who didn’t ask me.

Ironically a few months after graduation I ran into him at a party and he told me he had always planned to ask me to prom, but when he found out someone had spilled the beans to me and ruined the surprise he changed his mind and asked someone else from a different school.  I was stunned and heartbroken all over again. Sophia Loren’s Life & Career Celebrated May 4, 2011 By The Academy Of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences

Academy to Host Tribute to Sophia Loren

Sophia Lorens Life & Career Celebrated May 4, 2011 By The Academy Of Motion Pictures Arts and SciencesBeverly Hills, CA – The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences will celebrate the life and career of Sophia Loren with a gala evening of film clips and personal remarks from her friends and colleagues, concluding with an onstage conversation with the Oscar®-winning actress on Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at 8 p.m. at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.

In 1961 Loren earned the first Academy Award® presented to a lead performer in a non-English speaking role, for “Two Women,” directed by Vittorio De Sica.  Prior to her win, Loren had already made an indelible impression on film audiences both in her native Italy and throughout the world.

De Sica directed Loren to another Oscar nomination in “Marriage Italian Style” (1964) opposite her most frequent co-star, Marcello Mastroianni.  The two starred in “Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” (1964), the winner of that year’s Foreign Language Film Academy Award for Italy, and “A Special Day” (1977), which was also nominated in that category.

Adept at dramatic, comedic and romantic roles, Loren traveled effortlessly between Hollywood and international productions, delivering memorable performances opposite many great leading men, including Cary Grant (“Houseboat,” 1958), Clark Gable (“It Started in Naples,” 1960), Charlton Heston (“El Cid,” 1961), Gregory Peck (“Arabesque,” 1966), Marlon Brando (“A Countess from Hong Kong,” 1967, directed by Charles Chaplin), Peter O’Toole (“Man of La Mancha,” 1972), and Richard Burton (“The Voyage,” 1974).

Her long marriage to producer Carlo Ponti yielded many roles for the actress, as well as two sons. Continue reading “Sophia Loren’s Life & Career Celebrated May 4, 2011 By The Academy Of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences” »
