Maybe it was the influence of the trademark ballerina buns in the multi-nominated The Black Swan or maybe it was just something in the air but many of the 2011 Golden Globes female celebs showcased an array of twists, buns and upswept strands.

Some were gorgeous, some not so much.

Presenter Scarlett Johansson looked spectacular in Elie Saab, but her hair was an swept up into an off-center confection of over tresses cottony mess which some critics referred to as a Bride of Frankenstein mess.

Helena Bonham Carter’s hair was hard to classify although it was mostly up with lots of texture and what appeared to be a type of netting headdress.

Golden Globe winner Natalie Portman nailed her big bun version with a gorgeous sleek French Twist right out of an Audrey Hepburn movie.  Actress Claire Danes, another GG winner, wore a very chic and smooth nape neck chignon that was very polished.

Jennifer Love Hewitt also had a big bun which straddled the crown of her head.  The good news was that Jennifer’s bun was polished and finished and appropriate for the gown she was wearing.

E Fashion Police team members Kelly Osbourne showcased a hip Grace Kelly blonde updo which was in perfect harmony with Guiliana Rancic’s beautiful brunette version.

Some other notable buns, twists and chignons included Amy Adams strawberry blonde twisted bun with side tendrils,  Emma Stone’s newly blonde sleek updo twist and Glee’s Heather Morris who had a sleek twist with a soft sweep of side fringe and a side tendril.  Julianna Margulies pulled back her natural brunette ringlet curls into a tight twist.

Gorgeous blonde Carrie Underwood combined a sleek twist with a polished crown bump which created instant elegance and sophistication who told Ryan Seacrest it was her first Golden Globes appearance.  Modern Family’s Julie Bowen looked adorable with her tousled updo while Eva Longoria had a very elegant twisted updo with a sleek side-swept fringe tucked to one side.

Julia Stiles rocked a pulled back, pinned up hairstyle which was tucked behind one ear and pulled under in the back to give the appearance of a tousled chignon.

Many other celebrities like Mila Kunis had versions of updos, twists, buns, ballerina buns or similar.  Most of the pulled up hairstyles were loose and slightly tousled but with a nice finish.  There was not obvious bedhead buns other than maybe Helena Bonham Carter whose hair looked like it had been slept on for weeks.

It will be interesting to see if all the updos, twists and buns will be a big trend on the upcoming Oscar Red Carpet.  Stay tuned.

Katey Sagal was not expected to win the 2011 Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama.  In fact, many critics believed Mad Men’s Elizabeth Moss was the front runner.  Also in the category with Katey was Julianna Marguilies for The Good Wife, Piper Perabo for Covert Affairs and Kyra Sedgwick for The Closer.

When Katey’s name was called as the winner she appeared shocked.  Wearing her long dark brown hair cascading down around her shoulders in sleek, shiny waves, Katey was long overdue for her win.  She also rocked a deep side part with a peek-a-boo side-swept fringe.

As Gemma Teller-Morrow, mother to Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam) and wife to Clay (Ron Perlman) she is spectacular as the woman who hold the fearless biker club together.  Her acting is stunning.

Her husband, Kurt Sutter, is the creator of the Sons Of Anarchy show on FX, which just ended it’s third season, which won Katey the golden statue.

Katey was amazing in the past season for dealing with a kidnapped grandson, a father with Alzheimer’s disease and a serious health scare.  No question that the recent season of Sons Of Anarchy was incredibly gripping.

Sagal beat out some of the very best actresses with her win.  “I’ve just been working so many years and I’m so honored to be up here. My God, I can’t believe this,” said a shocked Sagal.

Looking spectacular in a winter white long Zuhair Murad gown, the multi-talented Jennifer Lopez wowed as a co-presenter at the 2011 Golden Globes Awards.

Jennifer wore her trademark chocolate brown tresses brushed off her gorgeous face and pulled back into a long, lush, textured ponytail which extended down past the middle of her back.

Her ponytail base extended out a few inches giving the hairstyle a dramatic yet glamorous and polished style.

Jennifer’s white chiffon evening dress had a beautiful sheer beaded overlay which showed off her glowing tanned skin, and perfectly executed make-up and eye shadow.   The new American idol judge wore glittering diamond earrings and accessorized with sparkly pumps.

Jennifer was a co-presenter with funnyman Alec Baldwin who told her he had almost worn the exact same outfit.  She laughed and said she almost wore what he was wearing.  It was a cute dialogue.

The lovely Jennifer was escorted to the 2011 Golden Globes by her husband who looked handsome in a tuxedo.

Natalie Portman was one of the most highly anticipated celebrities to arrive at the 2011 Golden Globes Red Carpet.  E Fashion Police was all abuzz wondering how The Black Swan best actress nominee was going to present her burgeoning baby bump.  Now that Natalie is definitely showing, the question was whether she was going to camoflauge her bump or showcase it.

Natalie chose a stunning Viktor & Rolf pink gown accented with a vibrant red rose which totally rocked her new bump.  She accessorized with red shoes and handbag.

Natalie’s light brunette tresses were coiffed up into a smooth traditional style French twist.  Her hairstyle worked in harmony with her gown, jewels and accessories.  She had a sleek side-swept fringe.

When the star, the front runner to win the Best Actress Golden Globe stopped to chat with E’s Ryan Seacrest, she was very subdued. Portman admitted she’s overwhelmed with all the professional and personal success of late.

“It’s alot,” she said of the baby, marriage and Oscar buzz. “I’m really bad at taking compliments!”

Natalie is engaged to Benjamin Millepied and told Ryan “I’m due this summer.”  Ryan asked if Natalie had been working on baby names and she explained she has to wait awhile before going through the baby book of names.

She told Ryan she’s “got to wait” until she starts to consider names.  “I’ve definitely been thinking about it, but i haven’t done the book or anything,” the star said. She also told Ryan she’s “open to suggestions!”

Jennifer Lawrence Paired Black Louis Vuitton With Tousled Bun At 2011 Golden Globes

Stylist Elizabeth Stewart dished to E Fashion Police about how she dressed her Golden Globe nominated star, Jennifer Lawrence, for the big awards ceremony.

Elizabeth reported Jennifer was wearing black Louis Vuitton.  Indeed she was.  Her gown was gorgeous with a fitted ruffled bodice.

Her stylist explained the nominated star is “super confident, super cool and wanted to wear something dark.”

E Fashion Police named Jennifer Lawrence as one to watch on the 2011 Golden Globes Red Carpet.  They said she looked like “a sexy salon girl.”

Jennifer’s open back gown was covered in stunning ruffles. The fitted waist was offset with a black belt.  She flashed a little bit of leg which allowed her to showcase her amazing shoes.

Her buttery blonde hair was raked back off her face into a bun which rested a few inches below the crown.  Her hairstyle was perfect to show off the straps and top of her gorgeous gown along with her Chopard jewels.  She was truly a vision.
