Baby Bump Is Out For 2012

The commonly used Baby Bump has officially fallen out of favor.  It was included on the Lake Superior State University 2012 List of Banished Words.

As reported by CNN the northern Michigan school released its 37th annual list of words and phrases that it believes should be forever “banished” from the English language.

Although the list focuses on current slang and related media words, some of the classics also make the list.

Should Baby Bump Be Banished?

And yes, the list includes commonly used words such as baby bump. Why the complaints about baby bump?

The term which is used to describe a pregnant woman’s baby embellished rounded belly has become linked with popular celebrity accessories.  In fact, at the 2011 Golden Globes and Oscars Red Carpet so many female celebrities were pregnant that Guiliana Rancic deemed it the hottest new accessory.

List Of Recommended Words For Banishment

How does the school get their list of recommended words?  Lake Superior State University in Sault Sainte Marie on the Canadian border solicites people online to nominate terms they consider tired, overused or simply annoying. Continue reading “Baby Bump Is Out For 2012” »

Jennifer Aniston Hair Battle

Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Aniston Hair Battle

Jennifer Aniston has lost the hair battle for best hairstyle to Emma Watson for the second year in a row.  Ironically Jen who is still dominating the media with rumors of her elopement with actor Justin Theroux has never wanted to be known for her hair.

During the days of Friends after The Rachel had just blown up salon phones around the world Jen’s publicist literally would hang up on editors from publications which wanted to discuss her famous hair chop.

I know that info for a fact since one of the editors I was working with at the time was hung up on more than once when she started to discuss the famous haircut.

Of course the world has come to find out that Jennifer actually hated The Rachel even though it really did make her famous.  She didn’t like the cut or the style but she did like the fame.  Except she wanted the fame for her acting skills, not her hairstyle.

Unfortunately the famous member of the Aniston-Pitt-Jolie love triangle has never really been able to escape the media’s obsession about her hair color, length, style, texture or product use. Continue reading “Jennifer Aniston Hair Battle” »

Hair Strength Improvement Plan

Hair Strength Improvement Plan

What really is the strength of hair?  Hair scientists have discovered over time that human hair is surprisingly strong.  In fact, a single hair can support a load of about 100 grams before breaking.

Some hair experts content you could even spin rope out of hair!

This information about the strength of hair may have been what inspired the writers of TV’s Grimm to create a Rapunzel-like character who used her hair as a type of whip to strangle one of the bad guys.

What Makes Hair So Strong?

What makes hair so strong?  The keratin protein of the cortex is responsible. The long keratin molecules in the cortex are compressed to form a regular structure, which is not only strong but also flexible.  Hair is 97 percent protein and 3 percent moisture.

Unfortunately in the name of beauty humans undercut the natural strength of their hair with improper care of the scalp, excessive or improper use of shampoos and styling products, hair dyes, chemicals and hot tools.  Over time the hair will start to degrade and become damaged.

When hair becomes damaged it will weaken causing it to shed, break, split or rip.  Also, the scalp may start to flake and the strands can become brittle, dry or even feel spongy. Continue reading “Hair Strength Improvement Plan” »

Hair Frizz Busting Spray – How To

One of the best oils for adding instant hydration and eliminating frizz is jojoba oil.  Aloe gel is also great for adding moisture while controlling frizz.

Dehydration and frizz are both is an ongoing challenges for naturally curly, wavy or textured hair.  Aloe gel also helps to define texture (curl clumping, waves, coils, kinks, ringlets or similar).

It’s important to keep long hair or naturally dry hair hydrated to prevent tangles, breaks, splits or similar.

Jojoba Oil + Aloe Vera Gel + Glycerine & Essential Oils

When you combine jojoba oil with aloe vera gel and mix in a little glycerin, essential oils and  you get a home made frizz busting recipe for a wide range of hair types, textures, lengths and conditions.

The recipe can be used as a leave-in detangling conditioner or as a pre-shampoo treatment.  It can be used on wet, damp or dry hair.  If preferred, it can be applied before wet bunning.

This basic recipe has been around for many years and has appeared on a wide range of long hair (Kimberlily’s long hair anti-frizz recipe), naturally textured and similar hair forums, including HairBoutique.com’s Hair Talk Forum which was one of the very first hair focused forums on the Web since the mid 90s. Missing Mom Michelle Parker

Michelle Parker Hair War Fundraiser

Florida mom Michelle Parker, 33, has been missing since Thursday, November 18th shortly after her appearance on “The People’s Court” television show aired.

Her sudden and unexplained disappearance has been the focus of national headlines and talk shows.

The reason for the media interest in Parker is the fact she was battling ex-fiance Dale Smith over a $5,000 engagement ring.  After hearing both sides, People’s Court Judge Marilyn Milian ordered Parker to pay Smith $2,500.   Smith was also the father of Parker’s 3-year old twins.

Just a few hours after the episode aired, Parker dropped her 3-year-old twins off at Smith’s condo for scheduled visitation. Parker’s 2008 black Hummer H3 was found the following day in a parking lot on the west side of Orlando.

Decals for Parker’s Glow mobile tanning business had been removed from the windows, police said. Continue reading “Michelle Parker Hair War Fundraiser” »
