GREENSBORO, NC (December 1, 2010) — Loren Ridinger, creator of Motives® by Loren Ridinger (www.motivescosmetics.com), announced today that Motives will be holding an online search, seeking the next model for the cosmetic line. The contest will identify one female over 18 years of age who will appear in Motives promotional materials, print and online advertising, as well as make special live appearances on behalf of the brand.

A panel of judges from Motives Cosmetics will choose the winner in early January 2011.  The winner will appear on stage at the 2011 Market America World Conference (www.marketamerica.com), February 3-5, in Miami. This appearance, in front of 25,000 people will serve as the official launch for the new model of the makeup line.

NEW YORK – November 30, 2010 – Amid the rising tensions in Sudan, and a possible outbreak of violence that has world leaders fearing the worst, actor and activist George Clooney and NBC News’ Ann Curry travel to Southern Sudan to shine a spotlight on the tumultuous region as the January referendum — when the south will vote on whether or not to secede and form its own country — looms and millions of lives are at stake.

Clooney takes “Dateline” cameras on a fact-finding tour across the war-torn area and speaks with Curry about his experiences working with people who are living in dire poverty and struggling for peace.

Airing Friday, Dec. 3 at 10 PM/ET, this special edition of “Dateline” reveals a side of Clooney outside of Hollywood’s glitz and glamour — a Clooney leveraging his celebrity status to focus international attention on those who need it most, before it’s too late.

“For what may be the first time in history, our cameras aimed to document a war of potential atrocities, possibly even genocide, as it unfolded in real time,” explains NBC News’ Ann Curry. “No one is more serious, or as clued in to the potential risks in Sudan as George Clooney — not only as an actor, but as a human rights activist. This ‘Dateline’ hour offers a rare glimpse of the real world, and of a man who cares honestly about these people who have no voice; except the one he gives them.”

I recently escaped for a long Thanksgiving weekend to gorgeous South Padre Island a few miles from where Texas and Mexico intersect.  S.P.I. as the locals call it, is a wonderful beach resort to visit in off season due to the generally mild winters and the lack of tourists and traffic jams.

I’ve been visiting S.P.I. almost yearly since the late 1980s when my now deceased husband Michael Thayer and I discovered it’s relaxing charms.  It was our favorite place to go and hang out by the water’s edge.

Barbra Streisand’s Natural Curls In The Way We Were

The high rise condo where I stay during my S.P.I. visits is not equipped with high speed Internet.  In between sleeping until noon and afternoon naps, I curl up and watch endless movies.

Coty Inc. Acquires OPI Products Inc.

According to WWD Coty Inc., has put together a spectacular deal to acquire salon nail care specialists OPI Products Inc.,   The price tag?  Just under $1 billion dollars.

OPI is just one company in a string of companies Coty has purchased in the last few weeks.  The beauty giant has acquired skin care brand Philosophy and Dr. Scheller Cosmetics from Russian company Kalina.

Renato Semerari, president of Coty Beauty told WWD that OPI, which is already in 70 markets “has the potential to have a very strong global brand.”  He also said the salon channel would remain “the backbone of the brand.”

The deal was funded by the company’s cash, input from its investors and debt. And more could be on the way in a few days.  “There might be something else to come,” Semerari said, hinting a deal with a regional focus. Continue reading “Coty Acquires OPI Products” »
