Ben Affleck’s Career Back On Top With The Town

Ben Afflecks Career Back On Top With The TownThe day before Ben Affleck’s second directorial project, The Town, was released the actor was promoting the film on the Ellen show.  Ellen raved about the film, which she had previewed.

It seems Ellen had her finger on the pulse of moviegoers since The Town earned an estimated $23.8 million for its first three days in release.  The film actually far out-performed the film’s expectation set by Warner Brothers which co-produced the film.

The Boston-based crime drama which Affleck starred in, co-wrote and directed, was most popular with male audiences which would eliminate my initial hypothesis that Ellen fans lined up at the box office.    Of course men would be interested in the topic which was about bank robbers.

Exit pollster CinemaScore gave the film a B+ which means it most likely will have a solid life after its initial weekend.  Some experts speculate that women will also begin attending screenings due to the presence of the very popular Jon Hamm (Mad Man) along with the fact the film includes a love story along with the action drama backdrop.

Affleck is probably relieved that his film made such a strong showing over a weekend with a lot of new movies.   He told Ellen he had spent a tremendous amount of time researching the film by interviewing incarcerated bank robbers.  He also told MTV News he felt “a huge amount of pressure” crafting the flick.

Indeed, he told Ellen that by acting as the director he was often on his own deciding what to keep or what to cut in the editing room.

Affleck also told Ellen he is in a very good place with his life and the success of The Town can only make it all that much sweeter.
