Jojoba And Shea Butter Hair Recipe For Fine Natural Curls

Jojoba And Shea Butter For Fine Natural Curls

Jojoba And Shea Butter Hair Recipe For Fine Natural CurlsI was chatting recently with a HairBoutique.com Marketplace customer (Ruby) about the HairTopia Beautiful Hair Oil which is based upon 100% certified organic jojoba oil.

Ruby is African American with 3c/4a hair according to the Andrew Walker curl scale.  She said her hair gets very dry, which can be expected from this type of hair.  Since the cuticle does not close all the way, moisture is constantly being lost.

Like many naturally curl girls she is constantly searching for just the right product to add moisture back to her tresses which she said is considered fine texture.  She has a lot of hair, but it is also fine to very fine.

Evaluating Carol Daughter’s Tui Jojoba And Shea Butter Hair Sheen

One of the products she tried because of all the great reviews was Carol’s Daughter (CD) Tui Jojoba And Shea Butter Hair Sheen.  Although she said she loved the aroma, she said the spray product made her hair feel greasy and weighed down.  As we discussed, products which work for one type of curls may not work for others.  Even in the same Walker category or type such as hers.

Also, I told her its possible she used to much of the CD Tui product.  She promised me she had tried using just a tiny spritz which she first rubbed into her hands and then smoothed over the top.  Which leads me to believe her fine curls are not a good fit for this product.  Many naturally curly girls love the CD Tui product.

What Is Carol’s Daughter Tui Jojoba and Shea Butter Hair Sheen

Jojoba And Shea Butter Hair Recipe For Fine Natural CurlsThis product is a moisturizing hair oil and finishing product which is chock full of natural botanical ingredients designed to restore healthy shine while reducing frizz, and nourishing hair.

It also helps with taming unmanageable hair and frizz.  The product is formulated without Parabens, sulfates, synthetic dyes, Phthalates and Triclosan.

One of the most common comments about the CD Tui is that is smells amazing with a fruit aroma.

Another response is that when too much is used it can be somewhat greasy, which is why it’s best to first spray the Tui into the palms of your hands to rub it together before brushing it over the top of your strands.

Many curly girls will find that if it is used daily it will definitely be too much, especially for fine hair.  Some users have noted that if too much is used it may just sit on top of the cuticle rather than be absorbed down into it.

Tui Jojoba And Shea Butter Ingredients

Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Cyclomethicone, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Fragrance, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter).

Shea Butter And Jojoba Homemade Recipe For Fine Curly Hair

Jojoba And Shea Butter Hair Recipe For Fine Natural CurlsEven though my own hair is naturally wavy/curly and on the dry side, I find that shea butter can be too much.  I like how it make my hair feel softer but it can also make it greasy.  While I personally like many of the Carol’s Daughter products, I agree that the Tui can be a little heavy, at least for my own hair.

After doing lots of research I came up with my own homemade recipe for shea butter where I mix shea and jojoba together, much like in the Tui product.  To create a really great aroma I will add a few drops of vanilla, Ylang Ylang, rosemary and lavender.

Ingredients

Organic jojoba oil – 2 Tablespoons of Jojoba  (Avocado oil can be substituted, but it’s a bit heavier than jojoba)
Organic shea butter – 4 Tablespoons of Raw, Natural Undeodorized Shea Butter
Essential Oils such as Ylang Ylang, Rosemary, Lavender or as desired – 4-8 drops of each
Vanilla oil – 4-8 drops (more for a stronger scent)
Clean amber or white glass jar with a lid – 2 ounce size

You can make a larger amount of this recipe by doubling the amount of shea and jojoba utilized.  Adjust essential oils appropriately.  If you prefer more jojoba and less shea butter just reverse the ratio of jojoba to shea butter.

Jojoba And Shea Butter Hair Recipe For Fine Natural CurlsIf you want to make this formula more like the Carol’s Daughter Tui spray you can experiment by adding Sweet Almond Oil, Soybean Oil and Wheat Germ Oil to the mixture.  Or you may want to just work with jojoba oil if your hair is extremely fine or thin.

Directions

1.  Melt the shea butter in a double boiler over very low heat on the stove.  Do not use the microwave.
2.  Once the shea butter is completely melted add jojoba oil.
3.  Mix the shea and oil together completely.
4.  Remove from heat and add optional Essential Oils (EO).  Stir completely.
Note: Only a few drops are necessary to infuse the mixture with aroma and hair helping benefits.
5.  Pour the mixture into a clean heat-proof glass jar with a lid.
6.  Place into the refrigerator to firm the mixture.
7.  After mixture has firmed up appropriately, use on hair.

Use a clean spoon and dip into the mixture and apply to the palms of your hands.  Emulsify in your hands.  Scrunch it through newly cleansed, towel blotted tresses.  If you prefer, spritz hair with water to dampen and then apply mixture.

If your hair is fine or thin, apply only a very tiny amount until you know how your hair will react to the mixture.

Use this product as a pre-shampoo conditioner, scalp treatment, leave-in conditioner or end smoother.  Try it with both dry and damp strands.

Not only will this product help to amp up your curls, it may help add volume.  I have used it as an overnight deep treatment for my ends and it really works well.  Just be sure to use a protector for pillow cases and sheets.  It’s a great recipe for usage in the sun, after the sun and in between, but be careful to use sparingly.

Start very slowly with this mixture since it can feel a little sticky at first.

It would be really cool if you had a “before and after” photo showing “before” shea butter hair and after shea butter hair. I found your site a few hours ago and have read it all. I have forwarded it to zillions of friends.
