Hair Gallery in Brownsville, Texas Donates Hair To Oil Spill Efforts In GulfBrownsville, Texas is located a stone’s throw away from the Gulf of Mexico.  The hair stylists at the Hair Gallery on West Price Road in the southern city were horrified by the images being broadcast from the Gulf oil spill which depicted wildlife covered in oil.

As a result of a news report about hair salons doing their part to assist in the massive oil clean-up by donating hair clippings all of the stylists at the Hair Gallery decided to do their part to help make booms.

A boom is designed to soak up the oil and is stuffed inside with hair and nylon which creates a type of homemade sponge.

The oil spill which began April 20th with an explosion and fire on the drilling rig Deepwater Horizon killed 11 workers and millions of gallons of crude oil was leaking into the gulf.  It is the largest oil spill in U.S. history.

Hair donations are being collection in Louisiana.  Hair salons across the nation are sending hair donations to the Matter of Trust nonprofit organization that is spearheading the nationwide effort to assist in the oil clean-up.

The Matter of Trust organization has been receiving donations non-stop since the oil disaster and is storing it in 19 warehouses.  The organization, established in 1998, is an ecological public charity that links ideas, sparks action and materializes flourishing systems.

Although it has been reported that BP has no plans to accept the booms, Matter of Trust officials will send hair booms where needed.
