Celebrity Haircolorist Rita Hazan Launches Interactive Website

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Celebrity Haircolorist Rita Hazan Launches Interactive WebsiteIt doesn’t seem like seven years ago, but that’s how long it’s been since I first made the phone acquaintance of the fabulous world famous hair colorist Rita Hazan.

I was indirectly introduced to Rita via Jessica Simpson and her mom.  To make a long story short I was on a photo shoot in Dallas with Jessica, her mom Tina, celebrity hairdresser Ken Paves and make-up guru Karan Mitchell.  When Rita’s name came up.

They all raved about Rita’s color work until I decided to call and interview her for HairBoutique.com.

Note: Check out Rita Hazen:  Zen Master of Hair Color

It was a great decision.  Not only is Rita an amazing hair color expert, she is a great interview subject.  She requests questions in advance so she can prepare with well thought out answers and she is very succinct in her responses.  If you have the great fortune to interview her you best be prepared to catch her insightful quotes.

From Adir Salon To Rita Hazan Salon

When I first chatted with Rita in 1993 she had just opened her original Adir Salon.  Since that point her client base has completely exploded and she has moved to the much larger and more deluxe Rita Hazan Salon in the heart of Manhattan.  If you want the best colorist New York has to offer, it’s Rita.  In my humble opinion she’s worth every penny and however long you have to wait for an appointment. Cameron Crowe’s Brand New Zoo Movie

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Cameron Crowes Brand New Zoo MovieOne of the great things about writing this blog is that when I feel the burning need to write something which has absolutely no hooks to hair, beauty, fashion or similar, I can slide my rambling rhetoric into my Blog to relieve my itchy fingers and churning mind.

Such is my case with my need to write about Cameron Crowe, the famous teen writer for the esteemed Rolling Stone Magazine who went on to become a renowned writer, producer, director and who made a series of financially successful films.

(Image of Almost Famous Movie Poster from Wikipedia – All Rights Reserved)

While he appears to still have great hair in his early 50s, there’s no point in even discussing his follicles because who really cares about Cameron Crowe’s hair other than Cameron, his stylist and maybe his wife?

We Bought A Zoo

Instead, it seems more appropriate to focus on his writing and film making careers.  Which brings me to the point of my blog.  I recently noticed a news mention that Crowe (it feels weird referring to him by his surname) was getting ready to make his first film “We Bought a Zoo,” since 2005′s “Elizabethtown”.  The movie he’s making is a true life story about a man who actually bought a zoo.

Based on the 2008 memoirs of British journalist-turned-zookeeper Benjamin Mee, it tells the story of a guy who chucked it all and moved with his wife and kids into a barely functioning wildlife park in England.

Sounds fascinating and very appropriate for something the Almost Famous movie maker would gravitate towards.

My Ten Year Fascination With Cameron Crowe

Which brings me to my non-stalkerese fascination with Crowe.  You might conclude it’s because he was a child of the infamous 60s, married one of my favorite female rockers (other than Stevie Nick), Nancy Wilson of Heart, or that he’s the same astrological sign (Cancer) as me. Miley Cyrus Shocking Hair Extensions

Miley Cyrus Shocking Hair Extensions

Miley Cyrus With Super Long Hair Extensions

Miley Cyrus Shocking Hair Extensions

Miley Cyrus has recently been on a controversial hair extension journey.   After shedding her trademark super long hair extensions last week, Miley then turned around and showcased  a brand new set of hair extensions, which reportedly were installed by Kristina Barricelli of Gemini 14 Salon.

The latest hair was apparently imported to Los Angeles from Italy via New York.

While the extensions, which brushed Miley’s waist, were color matched to Miley’s base hair color, the media was shocked to discover that the super long add-on strands cost $24,000.

Could hair extensions really cost that much?  And why would the total price tag be so outrageous?

Since Miley requested extremely long extensions she most likely received very pricey 100% human hair.  The very highest quality of European hair can be some of the highest priced hair in the world.

Who knows if the total price tag included special flights for the hair and Miley’s extensionist from Italy to New York or from New York to LA?  Maybe the hair or her hair expansionist flew first class which can add to the bottom line.

Of course there is also the cost of having the extensions hand applied. Even still, the price tag still seems a little crazy.

Such is the life of a celebrity. The good news?  Miley can certainly afford it her most recent hair extensions.

Academy Invites 135 to Membership

Academy Nominated Anna Kendrick

Academy Invites 135 to Membership

Beverly Hills, CA – The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is extending invitations to join the organization to 135 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures.

Those who accept the invitation will be the only additions in 2010 to the Academy’s roster of voting members.

“The work of these individuals has been appreciated by moviegoers all around the world,” said Academy President Tom Sherak. “The Academy is proud to invite each and every one of them.”

The Academy’s membership policies would have allowed a maximum of 180 new members in 2010, but as in other recent years, the several branch committees endorsed fewer candidates than were proposed to them.

Voting membership in the organization has now held steady at just under 6,000 members since 2003.

New members will be welcomed into the Academy at an invitation-only reception at the Academy’s Fairbanks Center for Motion Picture Study in Beverly Hills in September. Continue reading “Academy Invites 135 to Membership” »

Larry King Announces Retirement After 25 Years

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

Larry King will retire as host of CNN’s “Larry King Live” after 25 years, he announced Tuesday evening.

King will step down from the program in the fall, but remain with CNN.

“I talked to the guys here at CNN and I told them I would like to end Larry King Live, the nightly show, this fall and CNN has graciously accepted, giving me more time for my wife and I to get to the kids’ little league games,” he wrote on his blog. “I’ll still be a part of the CNN family, hosting several Larry King specials on major national and international subjects.

“With this chapter closing I’m looking forward to the future and what my next chapter will bring, but for now it’s time to hang up my nightly suspenders,” he added.
