Scott Leo “Taye” Diggs (born January 2, 1971) is an American theatre, film and television actor. He is perhaps best known for his roles in the Broadway play RENT and as the hunky doctor on ABC’s Private Practice who is having a lustful but unfilled relationship with Addison Montgomery played by Kate Walsh.

His nickname, Taye, comes from the playful pronunciation of Scotty as “Scottay”.

Taye married RENT co-star Idina Menzel on January 11, 2003. Their son, Walker Nathaniel Diggs, was born on September 2, 2009.

Taye was recently a guest on Ellen.  When he appeared on stage he was wearing jeans, black horn rimmed glasses and a long scarf tied around his neck.  He started dancing with Ellen who said “hey, I would love to see you dance more.”  Taye said “I love to dance.”

Ellen asked about the new baby and Taye said the baby just turned six months and has “personality”.  An adorable photo was shown of Taye holding his new son.

Taye told Ellen “I’m worried he doesn’t know his name (Walker Nathanial Diggs) because we have so many nicknames for him.  Including Skywalker, Walkman, Walkadoo, Walkathon, Swirl, Little Papa, Boobiboop.”

Ellen asked why Swirl?  Taye said “because he’s chocolate vanilla swirl” and on the “back of his head he’s got a little swirl.”

Taye “awwww, I love him so much.”  Ellen said about the photo “that’s just the cutest think you could’ve made.  That’s just adorable.”

Taye admitted he’s a hands on dad and does “as much as I can do” including changing diapers although the baby’s attached to his mom.  Taye said his name has turned into “honey can you just” and it comes up always “right when I’m about to sit down.”

Taye laughed and said “Honey could you just, that’s my name now.” He did say he was grateful for the baby and “I’m forever in her debt.”

Taye said his son is already showing personality and he “loves to dance” Taye’s favorites on American Idol this season?  He confessed to not remembering names but he likes “the big brother (Mike Lynch) because he’s solid.  He’s really really solid.  He seems like he’s just so positive.”  He also likes “the Latino Cat with the tattoo (Andrew Garcias) and the blonde white cat that’s soulful (Casey)

He also told Ellen “I love you on it.  You have a great perspective.”  Ellen “I don’t like hurting people’s feelings.”

Taye had nothing but great things to say about American Idol and agreed with Ellen it takes a lot of courage to get up on stage in front of America and be criticized.
