Wet Seal Hit By Credit Card FraudFoothill Ranch, CA–As reported by Accessories Magazine specialist retailer The Wet Seal was targeted by a credit card data theft ring, the company has admitted.

The young woman’s retailer was one of many companies hit in 2008 by the ring, whose mastermind, Albert Gonzalez, was sentenced to 20 years in prison last week.

President and CEO Ed Thomas stressed that there was “no evidence” that any data or personal information was taken by the gang, or that any credit card fraud had taken place as a result.

“Within two days of our becoming aware of this matter, we implemented systems enhancements that eliminated our identified vulnerability,” he said.

Gonzalez received two concurrent 20-year jail terms for two separate cases of data theft, involving The Wet Seal, TJX Companies, Barnes & Noble and others.

According to prosecutors, tens of millions of credit and debit card numbers were stolen by the ring, at a combined cost to companies, banks and insurers of almost $200 million.

That’s good for him, credit card and other data theft in the internet are poison. I’ve just tweeted this news for more exposure.
