24 Canceled By Fox And Not Picked Up By NBC

24 Canceled By Fox And Not Picked Up By NBCDire hard 24 fans were on the edge of their seats waiting to hear about the fate of the show.  There’s been lots of rumors lately that this was going to be the last year for the long running serial.

“24” first captured America’s attention in late 2001. The first season, which involved the explosion of a passenger plane and an assassination attempt on a presidential candidate, entered production well before the 9/11 attacks, but had its premiere eight weeks afterward.

Spooky and interesting timing but the show captured the fear of the American audience and it soared to the top of the ratings.  It also raised questions with its torture segments which many found inappropriate on a number of levels.

Can you even believe “24″ has been on the air for almost a decade?  It seems like yesterday Jack Bauer burst onto the scene.

In an interview earlier this month, as the Fox network was weighing its options, its entertainment president, Kevin Reilly, said, “It’s a hard decision for all involved.”

There was also talk that NBC might pick up the show if Fox didn’t.

’24′ star Mary Lynn Rajskub announced on Twitter that  ’24′ has been canceled.   The latest word is that NBC also will not pick up the show but either Fox or NBC will make 24 into a full movie in the future.

Fox said that the final episodes would be shown on May 24th.  Set your Tivos.
