Time Inc. Folding InStyle Weddings

InStyle Wedding Magazine Folding In December 2009It has been confirmed by The Gawker that Time Inc. is folding Instyle Weddings, a quarterly publication. The wedding magazine category is rough these days due to the large number of wedding magazines and the challenged economy.

Brides have been turning more towards free Internet sites for their bridal fixes.

The long term magazine’s closure comes upon the heels of a round of employee layoffs. Earlier this month, Time Inc. began laying off roughly 500 staffers in a reorg that was done to save $100 million costs.

InStyle Wedding’s final issue hits newsstands on Dec. 25, and will be available until March 2009.  InStyle will continue to publish other similar types of spinoff magazines, but will abandon the weddings theme.

Conde Nast folded Elegant Bride and Modern Bride last month, and its flagship title, Brides is having problems of its own.

It’s a shame – but there are so many great wedding blogs out there these days that it’s hardly surprising.

It’s a shame indeed. But this dosent mean that the others are not doing good. This category is always HOT and Unique. There were approximately 2,230,000 marriages in 2005 but in 2009 it went up by 16% to 2,586,800 according to U.S. Divorce Statistics. http://www.divorcemag.com/
