Famous Lord of the Rings trilogy director Peter Jackson’s latest film, “The Lovely Bones” is due to be released to theaters in late November or through December of 2009 just in time for the big movie going season.

The film is being touted as an equivalent of Jackson’s famous“King Kong” film.  The movie is an adaptation of Alice Sebold’s best-seller about a murdered girl and her family’s struggle to cope with the loss.   Critics believe the success of the film will depend on the power of the cast, Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz, Susan Sarandon and Saoirse Ronan, to make the very sad but beautiful novel into a positive reality.

Critics have noted that Mr. Jackson (born October 31, 1961 in New Zealand) works well with actors on smaller-scale projects (like his 1994 character study “Heavenly Creatures” with Kate Winslet) and generally succeeds at anything he touches in the film industry.

Peter Jackson’s spectacular trail of success is continuing.  Since his billion dollar success with the Lord films the sky is the limit for Peter who has carte blanche in Hollywood with regard to unlimited capital and creative control.

The award winning director and producer is also famous for his work on films such as Dead Alive and The Frighteners.  In fact, The Hollywood Reporter recently named Mr. Jackson the Producer of the Year for 2009 along with his partners.  Many know Peter for his work producing the mega hit Lord of the Rings trilogy.  Of course he is considered a superpower in Hollywood.

What’s Next For Peter Jackson?

What is the famous New Zealander up to next?   He has been working on “Temeraire” which is based on the fantasy novels by Naomi Novik set during the Napoleonic Wars which is complete with flying dragons.  Although he was also working on Dam Busters, the English World War II action drama, it’s temporarily on the back burner because Peter has concerns it might be “too English” and a film he would not produce, only direct.

Peter is also working with famed filmmaker Steven Spielberg on the film“Tintin” which will start filming in 2010.  Although Steven Spielberg was originally considering doing the film himself, he decided to ask Peter to do the film instead.  In January of 2006, Steven and Peter got together and agreed to become full and equal partners in the franchise.

Peter will spend the next year producing Tintin as well as two Hobbit films.  He won’t direct again before the end of 2010. The trade paper notes that the filmmaker considered directing the Lord of the Rings prequels although ultimately he turned the films over to Guillermo del Toro.

The main reason Peter decided not to direct the next two Hobbit films so that they were not in any way compared to his Lord of the Rings films.

There is no doubt that Peter Jackson will continue to turn all the films he touches into golden magic.
