Melanie Segal’s Teen Choice Awards Lounge by Rocket Dog Working To Help With Animal Shelter Crisis In California
Melanie Segal’s Teen Choice Awards Lounge presented by Rocket Dog helping to alleviate the animal shelter crisis in California
Hollywood, CA (Thursday, August 6, 2009) – With celebrities like Robert Pattinson, Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers, Zac Efron, Lauren Conrad, Paris Hilton, and Kanye West in town for the Teen Choice Awards, Hollywood is in a festive mood. But the hottest spot in town is one where celebrities are giving back and celebrating at the same time.
At Melanie Segal’s Celebrity Lounge presented by Rocket Dog (www.rocketdog.com) on Thursday and Friday, stars are helping raise awareness for the little known animal shelter disaster hitting the U.S. due to the economic crisis.
At the event there will be dozens of pets from Tails of the City Animal Rescue (www.tailsofthecityrescue.com) at the lounge looking to be adopted into loving homes.
Rocket Dog Womens Fuzzy WedgeCelebrity guests like Stevie Wonder, Bridget Marquardt, Jordana Brewster and AnnaLynne McCord will take photos with these pets to help get them be adopted more quickly.
Because of the California budget crisis and subsequent tax cuts, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has just ended a state mandate to hold animal shelter strays for six days, resulting in euthanizing more animals – some after just 3 days. Animal shelters have already been hit hard with overcrowding due to the weak economy and the housing crisis, and this has just made things much worse.
“Often, in times of crises, pets become the forgotten victims,” explains Melanie Segal, owner of Platinum Publicity, a full service PR company specializing in celebrity events and gifting. “Much of the population have been forced out of their homes due to foreclosures and have moved into apartments that don’t allow animals. They’ve had to give away their beloved pets to overcrowded shelters.” And now these shelters aren’t even required to keep dogs for a week before putting them to sleep.
But lounge sponsors such as Rocket Dog, Tivo and Jet Blue have come to the rescue. Tivo is having celebrity guests of the lounge sign Tivos to be donated to “Tails of the City” for auction. Jet Blue has provided the auction with airline tickets up for bidding.
In return for their support, celebrities will get loads of pampering and gifting. They’ll leave Melanie Segal’s Lounge wearing the latest Rocket Dog shoes, made with fashion forward teens who surf a wave as readily as they do the Web.
Some hot give away items include: New Clearasil Ultra® Pimple Blocker Pen guaranteed to get to work immediately to help stop a pimple in its tracks! Primp Clothing – a luxury knitwear company that combines comfort and style. Primp’s trend- setting novelty prints and graphics make it irresistible to fashion forward women everywhere. Steven Shein Jewelry – a
Los Angeles based line of colorful and innovative jewelry influenced equally by pop culture and formal design. Red Light Energy Drink – containing the complex, five-flavored schizandra berry, high in antioxidants and vitamin C, without excessive amounts of caffeine.
Other sponsors of Melanie Segal’s Celebrity Lounge presented by Rocket Dog include Dance Dance Revolution, Cosabella, Makeup Mandy, Jonathan Martin, Johnny Martin, Innex, Wellness Bags, Christy’s Hats, Energy Muse Jewelry, Dogswell, Greener Pup, Izze, ManiPedi Cutie, Bayer Teen Vitamins, The OC Dog Newspaper, Icelandic Glacial, Classic Photo Booth, Barts Carts, Perfekt Beauty and Honest Tea.
