Defying Gravity Launched With Two Hour Flight
ABC has launched a new drama series which is built around The Antares, a spaceship traveling on a six year solar expedition.
The two hour premiere of the series was shown last night and it introduced the various key players and their ultimate role in the expedition along with some interesting mini-disasters along the way. The drama includes all sorts of tests of survival as well as lots of interpersonal drama.
“Defying Gravity” stars Ron Livingston as Maddux Donner, Laura Harris as Zoe Barnes, Malik Yoba as Ted Shaw, Christina Cox as Jen Crane, Florentine Lahme as Nadia Schilling, Paula Garces as Paula Morales, Eyal Podell as Evram Mintz, Dylan Taylor as Steve Wassenfelder, Andrew Airlie as Mike Goss, Karen LeBlanc as Eve Shaw, Zahf Paroo as Ajay Sharma and Maxim Roy as Claire Dereux.
Ron Livingston & Laura Harris
I will admit that I’m not that much into spaceship themes although I have had a love/hate relationship with Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica and similar genres over the years. I do love Ron Livingston and Laura Harris, both separately and together.
When Laura Harris joined the cast of Dead Like Me as Daisy I was thrilled. While I was a huge fan of Dead Like Me I believe Laura helped turn up the show a notch. I have loved her work in everything she has done. Same with Ron.
Even if Defying Gravity was horrible I would still watch to see Ron and Laura. If I don’t like the show, which I am still unsure about at this point, I will speed through my Tivo to the parts Ron and Laura appear in. Simple solution. Right?
To be fair I am going to give the entire show a chance and have it set up to watch for at least the first four full episodes. Meanwhile I am thrilled to see Ron and Laura back on primetime TV. I am rooting for the show to do well because I would love for ABC, Ron and Daisy to have a big hit on their hands. That should keep them around for awhile.
