Healthy Hair - Luciana’s Kitchen For Healthy Food
How many times have I talked about the importance of good nutrition to develop, grow and maintain healthy tresses? I say it so often I probably mumble about it in my sleep along with other hair tips.
Regardless, it is pretty cool to find a blog with healthy recipes and tips that a finnicky eater like me can embrace.
My father was barely born on US soil. His parents were Irish born and bred. As a result, my dad - Michael Joseph O’Connor - was a big meat and potatoes man. Which is exactly how he raised his own Irish Catholic family. Yes, we had corn beef and cabbage (especially on St. Paddy’s Day) with a bit more focus on the corn beef rather than the cabbage. We also had lots of red meat (steaks, roast beef, pork chops) and potatoes (mashed, baked, boiled) with just about everything.
My dad was the product of his food choices. Saddly he met his earthly demise from heart disease in his sixties. My mom who grew up on a large farm in Missouri was more into the vegetable side of eating, but just barely.
Rita Elizabeth O’Connor, mom to us kids, grew up with lots of plump little chickens, corn fed pigs and homemade sausage. My mom lived a few years longer than dad but died of a massive stroke. Both diseases related to clogged arteries which result from eating lots of meat.
Yikes. Not such good news for me and the other two O’Connor kids - Dennis Michael and Mary G (she hates her middle name and would kill me if I used it).
Me? I try to eat better than my parents and usually do a passable job. I only smoked for literally a second in college (both my parents smoked) and only partake in champagne for special events. I take lots of vitamin (HairTopia and lots of herbs) and avoid red meat as much as possible.
Over the years I dabbled with being a vegetarian, which was hard for me and have gone on fasts (both healthy and unhealthy) until my hair started to fall out. That put the kobash on detoxing via fasting. At the current time I try to eat sensibly on a daily basis with Starbucks and cupcakes being my worst temptations. Just imagine when Starbucks was selling cupcakes. It was pure hell.
Note: Check out the various cupcakes at Luciana’s Kitchen. Interesting and yummy at the same time.
When I found Luciana’s Kitchen blog I was delighted by the combinations of vegan foods that I could actually eat and enjoy. Her recipes have all sorts of ingredients that are excellent for growing healthy hair and for beautiful skin. Reading them actually makes me drool and I don’t feel guilty because I know they are good for my body and for my hair.
Visit Luciana’s Kitchen and be prepared to drool at some of the yummy recipes. Be sure and say hello from me. Let me know if you try any of Luciana’s great vegan recipes, which unless otherwise noted, are all her own.
