Natural Curls: The Sisters Behind Miss Jessie’s

Natural Curls: The Sisters Behind Miss Jessies Natural Curls: The Sisters Behind Miss Jessies Natural Curls: The Sisters Behind Miss Jessies

Natural Curls: The Sisters Behind Miss JessiesIn case you’re wondering what all the buzz is about when it comes to Miss Jessie’s, it directly relates to sisters Miko and Titi Branch who are the grandaughters of the original Miss Jessie.

Their grandma Jessie developed hair care products for the unique hair requirement of Miko and Titi who are a mix of African American (father) and Japanese (mother) heritage.

The sisters who are behind Miss Jessie’s are big news in the natural care movement which is behind wearing naturally kinky, curly or similar hair in a “natural” manner without chemicals or harsh hair care products.

Running a family business can be a challenging experience and as the world of Miss Jessie’s devotees know, Miko and Titi went through a period where they had a split.  The sisterly rift has now been healed and the two siblings are back together and working hand in hand to help people with naturally curly hair transform it into gorgeous “natural” curls.

The naturally curly world has also been buzzing about Miko’s Silkener chemical service which for all intents and purposess stretches and smooths coiled textures such as curls, kinks or waves.

Does The Silkener service follow a pure  “natural”  philosophy.  It depends on whom you talk to but the natural hair movement is divided  on whether you can have a “natural” hairstyle if chemicals are deployed.Natural Curls: The Sisters Behind Miss JessiesThe theory behind the Silkener service is that it’s different than a traditional texturizer.  The Silkener has as a major ingredient Sodium Hydroxide.

The difference between a traditional chemical straightener which leaves the hair stick straight and a relaxer which softens tight texture but leaves some soft waves behind, the Silkener is designed to soften the natural curl structure so that it no longer has frizz but will form a better curl pattern.

Although no naturally curly hair products work for all curly folks, the word on the street is that Miss Jessie’s is especially good for the 3c/4a curly type of hair.

Like everything in the natural curl world, some of Miss Jessie’s products are considered “controversial because they include lye and mineral oil ingredients which the “natural” hair world has deemed unhealthy and unnatural for kinky or curly hair.

From that viewpoint it’s true that Miss Jessie’s has “unnatural” ingredients.  But again, they also offer their Silkening process which is a chemical treatment and definitely goes against the belief in chemical free curls.

Rapid fans of Miss Jessie’s ignore the controversy of the lye and mineral oil and instead focus on the rich list of natural oils such as sweet almond, avocado, macadamia seed oil and shea butter which are all extremely moisturizing.

MISS JESSIE’S PRODUCTS ARE NOT THE BEST FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE CURLY OR NATURAL HAIR, ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO LIKE TO USE ALL NATURAL PRODUCTS

hello, i would first like to say that not all products are good for everybody. I used Miss jessie products and I love them. My hair has a wavy to it already and this product enhanced what was there from the start. But if you don’t have a wavy to your hair, then this may not be for you. I love my natural hair and was growing tired of not finding products that worked. Then I found Miss Jessie and I love it.
    Thank you

I am little concerned!!!!! I was attracted to this websites’ hair photo gallery, and I thought, “Wow, I finally can look at these cutielicious photos of ethnic hair.” But it was nothing like that. There were maybe only 5 or 9 photos of ethnic hairstyles, and MOST of them are photos Fro’s and a few trendy styles. Let me reinerate a FEW!!! The rest of the website made sure tho’ to put over 200 photos/pics of the “majority” celebrity styles without much diversirty for that matter and most of them were not sleek nor chic. Again, just a little concerned….I’ll Just start my own Bitches;-)!!!!!!!!!

i just recently have had the opportunity to use the Miss Jessie in my clients hair and they all love the product but now I have a few New All Natural clients that have introduced me to the mineral oil problems that the products contain so Im learning now and seeking alternatives for them. Otherwise im in love with the product.. If it not fo you it not for you…. Find something else

Hi, I recently heard of and tried Miss Jessie’s hair care products for Natural hair. I loved the smell and the way it made my hair look. However, The products made my hair feel like STRAW!!!!!!!!!!! Dried my hair completely out. I think I will go back to my old hair care products.

If your success is not on your own terms, if it looks good to the world but does not feel good in your heart, it is not success at all.

A co woker told me about Miss Jessie products. I looked up the product on youtube.com Every video had people of MIXED RACE using the product. I consider myself 100% Black with tightly curled afro that blooms when wet and shrinks when dry. I need detanglar to comb it.

My point being people of MIXED RACE do not have the same texture as some one who is African or African American. If you really want to show me this product will work on Black hair then do videos with BLACK people and not people of MIXED RACE. I don’t feel they adequate represent my hair type.
