Budget Rental Cars – Miami, Florida – Hell On Wheels

Friday, October 31st, 2008

When I was younger I loved to travel.  That was then, before 911, airport security checkpoints, sky high gas fuel and extremely overcrowded airlines.

In my 20s I worked for one of the top software companies in the world and spent most Mondays and Fridays at airports around the US.  I racked up lots of frequent flier miles which I used for even more travel for vacation.  I become a whiz at learning all the ins and outs of the major airports and having fun doing it.

As CEO of HairBoutique.com it’s a requirement for me to travel from time to time.  I have become proficient at delegating trips to other HB team members whenever possible, or doing business via conference calls, net meetings or email.  Sometimes you just have to get on a plane and go do face time.  There’s no other way.

When I do have to travel, I employ every trick in the book to make it as painless as possible.  For trips requiring multiple changes of clothing I have learned to ship my clothes in advance and pack suits that are interchangeable.  I also prefer to stay in hotels with comfy beds to minimize jet lag and guarantee a good night’s rest. Ouidad Queen Of Curl Fights Straightening Of Curly StrandsOuidad Queen Of Curl Fights Straightening Of Curly Strands

In the film “The Women” which is a remake of the 1939 George Cukor classic re-imagined by writer-director Diane English, Meg Ryan’s hair on her character Mary was a key topic of controversy amongst naturally curly haired people.  Why?

Meg’s character Mary was portrayed as a kind of superhero suburban mom-stretched thin by her current life of parenting and all her other commitments.

Meg’s hair, as Mary, is long and full of bouncy ringlets.   Meg’s curly hairstyle was designed by the film’s hair designer, producer and Meg to demonstrate her character’s kinetic energy and to directly contrast to her best friend, Sylvia (Annette Bening), a high-powered magazine editor, who shows off a perfectly smooth and polished coif.

By the end of the film, after Meg’s character goes through the discovery of her philandering spouse and resulting soul-searching she undergoes a hair makeover which shows her with sleek and perfectly straight strands. Continue reading “Ouidad Queen Of Curl Fights Straightening Of Curly Strands” »

Lorraine Masseys Views On Straightening Naturally Curly HairLorraine Massey’s Views On Straightening Naturally Curly Hair

Curly hair guru and author Lorraine Massey, founder and co-owner of Devachan Salon & Departure Lounge and popular No Poo hair care line, preaches to the naturally curly to try and embrace their ringlets rather than quell them.

Lorraine was interviewed by The New York Observer’s Sara Vilkomerson for the September 2, 2008 issue in conjunction with Meg Ryan’s simulated naturally curled tresses (Meg has naturally wavy strands) in the movie “The Woman” where Meg dumps her curls towards the end of the movie to symbolize her growing success in life.

“This whole pathetic straightening religion … it’s modern-day slavery,” said Ms. Massey, who is a passionate believer in her cause. “Everyone is trying to hide from their heritage-it’s anthropological. It goes very deep.”

Ms. Massey was still livid over a recent run-in with the producers for Bravo’s Tim Gunn’s “Guide to Style”, which provides makeovers to the fashion-challenged, and who had asked her to participate. Continue reading “Lorraine Massey’s Views On Straightening Naturally Curly Hair” »

A Squirrel Is Just A Rat With A Cooler Outfit

Friday, October 24th, 2008

Whether I have a form of ADD or am just obsessed with maximum multi-tasking, I never seem to focus my entire attention on one thing at a time.  Which can be a good/bad thing depending on a variety of factors.

Such is the case with Sex And The City (SATC).  Not the movie but the series.  When I recently joined the thongs pouring into the theaters (a few months ago) for the much anticipated movie, I realized I couldn’t remember a lot of the individaul episodes from the SATC series which lasted for 6 1/2 seasons.

I promised myself I would stop, go back and watch all of the SATC episodes from beginning to end.  With that ambitious quest in mind I recently stopped by a half price video store in North Texas and hit the DVD lottery.  They happened to be having a big sale and I was able to score seasons 1,3,4,5 and 6 for more than 60% off the original price of each season.  I already had Season 2 of SATC which I received as a past Christmas gift from my best friend Jeff Hines.
