Where Have All The Good Employees Gone?

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

Yes, I know, everyone has constantly heard the phrase – good people are hard to find.  The sad fact is that it’s definitely true.

While I have spent the past ten years of my life dedicated to HairBoutique.com, before that point I had a long history in the work world.  Actually, my work life started before I was even in my teens.  My parents were old school who believed in hard work and giving their employers their very best.  As a result, their kids (me and my two siblings) were raised with iron clad work ethics which included never being late for work, giving 150% while on the clock, never taking so much as a pen from the office for personal use and showing respect for authority on the job.

My first “job” if you want to call it that, was babysitting in the neighborhood before I was even 12.  I had a number of “regulars” who would employ my kid watching services which put money in my pocket and triggered my lust for bigger and better jobs.  During that same period of time I also cut grass, raked leaves, ran errands and did a series of odd jobs.  Anything for a buck – within reason.

Andis Adds 1 1/2″ Nano Silver Tourmaline Ceramic Flat Iron

Three Sizes with State-of-the-Art Technologies for Old Fashioned Soft, Shiny Hair

Andis Adds 1 1/2 Nano Silver Tourmaline Ceramic Flat IronSturtevant, WI (August 18, 2009) – Andis has introduced a new 1-1/2” size to its collection of Nano-Silver Tourmaline Ceramic Flat Irons. Also available in 1” and 2” sizes, this group of flat irons combines the sealing power of tourmaline crystals with ceramic infrared heat and the natural, anti-bacterial properties of nano-silver.

The result?  Hair is smoother, and silkier without frizz or typical iron damage, in less time, without the danger of bacteria. The flat irons are silver, with soft blue plates and are part of the Andis At Home line.

“The Andis At Home line includes our top performing tools,” notes Fred Koeller, Vice President of Marketing at Andis. “The excellent performance that professional stylists expect from Andis styling tools is available through this line to use at home.”

Tourmaline crystals are crushed from precious gemstones and included in the flat irons. They emit negative ions that seal the cuticle layer of the hair quickly to eliminate frizz. The ceramic plate delivers infrared heat, which penetrates hair from the inside out without causing damage, preserving moisture and creating luster. Together, they assure that hair straightens quickly and is softer and shinier. Continue reading “Andis Adds 1 1/2″ Nano Silver Tourmaline Ceramic Flat Iron” »

Fergie Rocks Bohemian-Inspired Hairstyle at Teen Choice Awards

Fergie Rocks Bohemian Inspired Hairstyle at Teen Choice AwardsIt was all about having fun, clowning around, and winning some surf boards! The Teen Choice Awards, televised on August 4, 2008, was a fun-filled event with a lot of laughs and not to mention screaming fans.

But like any award show, a big focus of the night was the styles seen on the red carpet.

Lots of color, casual chic looks and a bevy of hairstyles were donned for the show. Always a crowd-pleaser, Fergie, graced the red-carpet with a bohemian-inspired look fitting for the award show.

“Since her dress was very bohemian, we wanted her hair to be a little edgier but still complement her look” says, Patricia Morales, Redken session stylist and hair stylist to Fergie. “I showed her a series of braids I have been working on and she chose the fish tail braids. I think she rocked it!” Continue reading “Fergie Rocks Bohemian-Inspired Hairstyle at Teen Choice Awards” »

Air Fares Going Sky High – American Airlines Applies The Pinch

Monday, August 4th, 2008

The USA Today newspaper cover story in the Money section for August 4th hit really close to home.  USA Today posed the question – “Will fares go so high that only the rich can fly”?

Uh yes.  It would appear so.

Less than ten months ago I made my annual pilgrimage to the Fashion Mecca in New York City.  The cost of my unrestricted coach fare was more than 50% lower than it was when I recently booked my tickets for the current trip.  Although I booked my tickets almost 2 months in advance this time, due to dire warnings of cost increases, the number of non-stop flights had been reduced leaving the available flights very full.

In addition, I had hard won American Advantage Miles that would be expiring in 2009.  Since I heard rumors the mileage required to upgrade to First Class was going to double, I was prodded into using my rewards.  I hastened to the phone and cashed in some precious AA points for a cherished seat in the front of the plane.  Not only would I save my points from termination, but I would avoid being jammed into a completely full coach section during a 3 1/2 hour flight.  Definitely worth it to me to arrive less stressed and jangled.
