Spoiler Alert – If you haven’t seem the movie yet…you may not want to read any futher…although I promise to try and keep any spoiler to a minimum.

Yes, I was there. One of the hordes of women sprinkled with a few men, who showed up for the very first showing of the SATC movie. The first time available was 10:15 and there I was waiting patiently in line to buy my ticket at 10:00 am sharp.

By 10:10 I was in the very packed theater (Friday at 10:00 am and the theater is packed? Can you only imagine as the day goes on what the crowds will be like?) waiting patiently for sooooooo many previews to finish playing.

More than two-dozen products have been chosen Cosmetic Executive Women (CEW) Beauty Award winners. About 4,000 beauty professionals made the selections.

The wildly popular makeup and beauty skin-care store has opened its doors in Ottawa, Canada.

Sephora offers more than 200 brands from established ones like Lancôme to hot newcomers such as Bare Escentuals.

The products are displayed in over 5,625 square feet.  Shoppers are free to experiment, try on the makeup, spray the fragrances and ask for expert advice as they search for that perfect product.

The first Sephora opened in Toronto in 2004.  Marie-Christine Marchives, president of Sephora Canada, says the company decided last year to open new stores across the country to meet growing demand. Hair Sampling Tests To Be Used To Catch Sports Drug Cheats

Liquid chromatography will soon be used to track down drug cheats in sports.  Previously hair-sampling techniques were used to identify criminals, rapists or identifying unfit parents in custody battles.

The liquid chromatography tests offered by judicial system scientists will test for anabolic steroids, enabling accurate systematic identification of doping offenders.

The new method using hair strands will do away with urine testing.  The problem with urine testing is that it only detects illegal substances between two and five days after they have been ingested.

Hair samples provide a telltale history of a person’s consumption patterns for up to a year, depending on the length of the hair.  In the past athletes taking drugs would stop taking them a few days before a urine test.  With hair tests, there is a much longer window of time where drug use can be detected.

Pascal Kintz, President of the International Association of Forensic Toxicologists was quoted as saying about hair testing “The method works on the phenomenon that on average, human hair grows by 1cm a month, thus even cheats with a number one crop (3mm) cannot dodge detection, only if they put a stop on their drugs intake ten days before providing a sample.” Continue reading “Hair Sampling Tests To Be Used To Catch Sports Drug Cheats” »

Recently I discovered a book on Amazon.com with the title of My Side Of The Bandstand by Bob Kuban. Since Bob, who became famous for his hit single – The Cheater – was my music teacher for four years of band class at Bishop du Bourg High School in St. Louis, Mo. I couldn’t resist the book.

WOW. The book was fascinating in so many ways. Written with Nancy K. Wegner, Bob delved deeply into his life as a professional drummer and his entire life from the time he first picked up his beloved drum sticks.
