Cheers – Where Everybody Knows Your Name

Monday, March 31st, 2008

Cheers – Where Everybody Knows Your NameI used to think this old adage, made popular by the famous show Cheers, was a lovely state of being – one I have experienced many times over. It was always quite like the show itself – walking into my favorite little bar, Rip Rocks, being greeted by name by Cheers – Where Everybody Knows Your Nameeveryone from the door man, to the patrons, to the bartender. By the time I had made my way to the back, they’d have my signature drink waiting – margarita on the rocks with salt, two olives, two cherries, and a twist of lime. My favorite dart board would always be waiting and one of my best friends would happen to walk in soon after I did.

Every Cheers experience I had ever had – was just as happy, joyful, and full of laughs as the show itself…until just recently…when it turned into one of those famous Snickers commercials…Wanna get away?

Sesame Street Cupcake Rings – Simple Joys Of Adulthood

Friday, March 28th, 2008

Little did I know that I was missing one of life’s simple little pleasures. No, not a fine wine or a rare cavier but the big gaudy plastic ring that comes perched on top of a vanilla cupcake with swirls of white icing and edible glitter.

How did I discover this great find? After an exhausting day at the big accessory show I arrived back at the office to find my Marketing Guru aka The White Streak, wandering the halls with gigantic DayGlo rings on both of her pinkies. Thinking she had discovered a hot new fashion look, I asked to see her rings.

Drums, Fire, and Gypsies

Friday, March 28th, 2008

Drums, Fire, and GypsiesNo – these aren’t the key ingredients of the next installment of Indiana Jones – ok – maybe they are – but they also exist, unbeknownst to many, in the center of downtown Dallas.

Every Wednesday night…

The gypsy caravans pull up along with many drum enthusiasts, and pile into the Across The Street Bar for an evening of amazing drum beats and live dancing not to mention fire whizzing by in every possible direction. Drums, Fire, and Gypsies

Hair Accessories & Other Classifications

Friday, March 28th, 2008

Hair accessories have many different classifications.

Hair Accessories & Other ClassificationsLets start with the accessory category. Depending who you talk to, hair accessories are also sometimes referred to as hair jewels, hair jewelry or hair gems. In the fashion world, they are known as hair accessories and they fit in to the widely known category of accessories. (Image of Lucite Bobby Pin from Bijoux Luck – available at HairBoutique.com Marketplace – all rights reserved).

Accessories as a main fashion category include sub categories. Depending on the designs, they will either specialize in one category or they may mix and match between categories.

Generally speaking, the classifications of accessories include (but are not strictly limited to)

Shoes
Belts
Footwear (hosiery, socks)
Handbags (wallets & keychains)
Jewelry (earrings, necklaces, cuffs, bracelets, rings)
Scarves & Related
Gloves
Hats, Headwear, Veils (May or may not be part of scarves)
Miscellaneous (eyeglasses, sunglasses, eyeglass holders, cell phone cases)

Depending on the manufacturer and their defined market, they may or may not cross lines. A great shoe make like Jimmy Choo sells shoes, handbags and related items. Other lines will be very exclusive and only carry one item in the accessory domain.

Hair Accessory Tingles

Friday, March 28th, 2008

Hair Accessory TinglesBesides being HairBoutique.com CEO, editor-in-chief and writer, one of my other hats is buyer.

Hair Accessory TinglesNow that HairBoutique.com has over 15,000 SKUs (and growing constantly), I don’t buy for all the many different lines, but I do still buy all the hair accessory lines.

Maybe because I have my own designs – Karen Marie – or because I have been buying hair accessories since day one of our Marketplace…hair accessories are my “thing”.

Everyone at HairBoutique.com says I have “the eye” for buying great hair accessories. Or maybe they say that because they don’t want to be bothered and it is a good way to flatter me into volunteering to do the deed (which I actually love to do).

Hair Accessory TinglesAllow me to spiral off into a few memories and I promise to explain the “tingles” which is part of this title.

When the Hairboutique.com Marketplace was first getting started we have a few “hand made” hair accessories from a long haired designer out West. The accessories were very simple in design and construction but all I could find at the time.

After all, I went from telecommunications systems engineer geekette (they actually called me dudette at my last telecom job) to buying all sorts of hair goods and accessories. I knew absolutely nothing about what I was doing. Seriously naive about sooooooooooooo many things it is actually scary that I managed not to screw up more than I did.
