Karen Marie Shelton’s Blog

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

When blogging first became all the rage on the Internet I resisted jumping into the fray. After all, I had been writing full blown articles for HairBoutique.com since Day One back in 1997.

I wasn’t sold on why anyone should blog. I personally found blogs to be the lazy person’s way to throw up some quick content, often pinched (in my humble opinion) from a well-established website that had worked hard to develop and deliver top notch content.

First Blog – Hollywood And Mane – 2006

In late summer of 2006 I started blogging for DailyCeleb.com under the blog heading of HollywoodAndMane. My assignment was to provide celebrity hairstyle insights for the visitors of DailyCeleb.com. I was shocked when I started to blog. I found the experience of blogging to be incredibly freeing.

In the past I would often suffer from the dreaded Analysis Paralysis when writing a full blown article involving lots of images, quotes and references. With blogging I was doing a much more abbreviated form of my traditional hair and beauty articles. Yes, I still was concerned about finding the best images, providing appropriate credits and quotes, but in a much more streamlined way. Continue reading “Karen Marie Shelton’s Blog” »

Celeb Hairdresser Henry Amador – Best Gray Hair Advice

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

Although my arrival in the blogging world started a few years ago with my Hollywood & Mane column for DailyCeleb.com, I have been writing articles about hair since 1997 for HairBoutique.com and MultiMedia International publications (101 Celebrity Hairstyles, Short Cuts, Hair Gallery, etc.,)

Over the past 11 years I have spent a lot of time interviewing hairdressers, hair colorists and beauty experts about a wide range of hair and beauty related challenges.  I also went to two different cosmetology schools (which I loved) in order to deepen my knowledge of the professional hair business.

I honestly worry about giving hair consumers incorrect information.  Henry has been one of the amazing professional haircolorists who is always willing to take my calls and help me with any hair color related questions. Continue reading “Celeb Hairdresser Henry Amador – Best Gray Hair Advice” »

Las Vegas – Doing The Body Slam – Or Not

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

I’ve recently been compelled, no obsessed, to blog about my recent business trip to Las Vegas.

Imagine my disdain when at the HairBoutique.com Team Meeting today my Marketing Manager informed me of the need for me to jet off to New York City for important meetings.  UGH.  I’ve just gotten back to Dallas to enjoy the humid climate, lack of electric signs on every corner and polite people who walk in a queue – more or less.

Don’t get me wrong, I love New York.  If I was going to live anywhere but Dallas, it would be there.  However, I am still in trip shock from Las Vegas and for the purposes of this blog – the body slamming thing which bothered me the most about my Vegas trip. Growing Eyelashes The Lumigan Way

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

Growing Eyelashes The Lumigan WayThe big news in the world of eyelashes is that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved Bimatoprost (marketed as Lumigan) to grow eyelashes. Allergan, the maker of Botox will be releasing LATISSE™ which is their Lumigan based product in the Spring of 2009.

(Image of Before And After Eyelashes From PRNews.wire.com – Before-After-Photo.pdf)

The cost is expected to be in the range of $120 for a month’s supply.

Available only through a doctor, LATISSE™ is a once-daily prescription treatment applied to the base of the upper eyelashes with a sterile, single-use-per-eye disposable applicator.

LATISSE™ users can expect to experience longer, fuller and darker eyelashes in as little as eight weeks, with full results in 16 weeks.

To maintain effect, continued treatment with LATISSE™ is required. If use of LATISSE™ is discontinued, eyelashes will gradually return to where they were prior to treatment over a period of weeks to months (average eyelash hair cycle). Continue reading “Growing Eyelashes The Lumigan Way” »

Las Vegas – Climate Tips & Tricks

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

As I recently blogged, I spent a few days in Las Vegas on business.  There were many things about Vegas I had either forgotten, since my last visit (11 years ago), or I was never obviously aware of the situation.

One of the first things I noticed about Las Vegas, in addition to the ongoing light shows, flashing billboards and other glitzy entertainment available from Las Vegas Boulevard was how dry the air is.  I didn’t remember the dryness as a issue when I had visited in the past.  Maybe it was due to the time of year I had visited or maybe it just didn’t bother me back then.

The city, which is built in the desert, has extremely low humidity.  Within 24 hours of being in town I noticed my skin and hair were feeling unusually dry and “crunchy”.  I also had some frizz developing from the dryness.  My throat was also very dry and scratchy.

I started drinking lots of water to try and counterbalance the uncomfortable feeling in my throat and my sinuses which also dried out noticeably. Continue reading “Las Vegas – Climate Tips & Tricks” »
